To want girls clothes with proper sleeves?

Does this annoy anyone else?

We need to protect children's shoulders from the sun and should dress them in clothes with short sleeves. So why do clothing manufacturers make so many strappy sleeved dresses and tops? Yes you can put a t shirt underneath but then you're too bloody hot! I've seen loads of nice t shirts with silly sleeves that aren't really sleeves, just a bit of a frill sewn onto the body.

Can we update the Let Girls Be Girls campaign to Let Girls Be Girls with Sensible Sleeves?

Yes, this vexes me too. I am also bothered by the fact that so many longer sleeved summer items are made out of that heavy t-shirty material, which is rubbish in really warm weather. I've found it quite hard in the last couple of years to come by thin cottony tops for wearing in hot sun. If anyone can tell me where to find more of them, please do.

On the other hand, when I'm shopping for DS all the little girls' clothes look nice and loose, thin and cool and the boys' trousers are almost all lined (!), I don't want to put him in shorts, as it's just more skin that can burn. Next time I envy the nice girly bottom halves I'll remember how easy his top halves are. I saw a friend's DS in linen looking trousers, guttingly they were a hand me down not a recent purchase.

The sleeved thing does annoy me....I don't want my DD's shoulders left exposed to the sun, even if I have put cream on...and sleevesless dresses in winter? what's that about? Making you pay put even more money for the matching cardigan?

Agree totally, just tried to buy clothes for DD 7th birthday. In M and s there was nothing in her age range with proper sleeves and John Lewis was all 'pretty' stuff with nothing practical for a girl to wear in summer for camping and playing in the garden. Sun protection is a huge issue but clothes manufacturers do not seem to have taken it on board

Vertbaudet has some nice lightweight summer clothes for girls (with shoulders covered). Fairly unsparkly too.
