AIBU?

to think that booing all the girls last night on BB is very sad

Did anyone else notice this?

That when BB called out the names of the contestants and the crowd reacting on appearance only, knowing absolutely nothing about the contestants at all other than their neams, all but ONE of the girls were immediately booed.

And all but one of the boys were immediately cheered.

and so many people think equality of the sexes has almost been achieved in the UK.

Serves me right for watching in the first place I suppose.

And you are forgetting that the 81 (?) people already have met so will know who was nice/nasty/entertaining/boring etc.

The men in the main looked normal and the women looked like they were trying too hard to be wacky nothing to do with equality and all that.imo.

I just caught the end bit, and thought it was because the crowd was mostly made up of teenage girls.

Wasn't the crowd mainly girls?? whats that got to do with equality.

Not as sad as Tim Westwood saying that he hoped the one who looks like Rhianna would "meet her Chris Brown"

Not just based on appearances, based on those stupid video things they do. To prove that they are the most unique, funniest, most brilliant people to walk the planet. Some of them came across as right stupid bitches IMO!

We enjoyed the first one, and perhaps the second wasn't too bad, but it just got too predictable.

They should have chosen the contestants randomly, like they did the last one to avoid it getting so engineered by psychologists.

The only redeeming feature I can see about it is that the winners seemed to be the most normal person in a group of weirdos.

Who wants to watch a load of super egos running around shrieking and attention seeking??

Do you think you'll watch the rest of it OP? For old times sake?

I feel watching BB is a bit sad.

Regarding the equality of the sexes in the UK, I have been feeling that we have been deliberately conditioned by toy companies and the media, who have created the rise and rise of wags and page-three girls as legitimate celebrities, the Princess toys phenomena, and many other insidious diversions, to set back equality of the sexes several decades here in the UK.

What you saw on BB is a symptom of what we have done to the next generation.

Having moved here from Australia, I am still after all these years surprised by the divide between the sexes, with such examples as:

1: Blokes broadly not accepting that it's ok for women to go to a football match

2: Young people being encouraged by advertising and social mores to socialise in single-sex groups

3: Men being made to feel like they are disturbing some sort of exclusive club when they dare show up to a playgroup

4: The global (more American) trend for women artists who are making music videos to have to produce a soft-core pornographic dance routine

5: A reluctance for men in traditionally male jobs to allow women into their workplace without resorting to bullying

Oh I could go on. As I tend to do. Sorry...

Did you see when that ex soldier, i think his name was steve, went in, just at the bottom of the stairs when they were taking his pic, a hand appeared through the photographers with their middle finger up swearing at him. now that stunned me. why the hell would she be swearing at an ex soldier that has been half blown up.

disrespectful.

Snobear, women don't go to football matches cos they've got better things to do, and football is boring as fuck

I'm sure if they did want to go, a bit of blokey disapproval definately wouldn't put them off.

Totally agree, BB has been like this for years. Wacky and attention seeking men get big laughs, attention seeking women get booed.

It's normal to boo the women even before the tapes have been shown and a word has come out of their mouths, and the more 'good looking' the woman, the bigger the boos.

Nobody bothers booing the token lesbian with shaved hair etc. Just the ones they find threatening ie the page 3 types.

It's totally sad.

It's BB, EVERYONE has their judgy-pants on for the start. Errr for the whole series. Contestants know this, they need to be strong enough to deal with it. We'll soon see who the public actually warm to.

Disappointed Mr T didn't get to go in.

But am looking forward to the BB that follows on from this one what has a selection of the winners all fighting it out. Have fond memories of Pete. (BB getting him sozzled in the diary room with the disco booming is one of my favourites). Will make an effort to see a bit of that one!

Highly unlikely I'll watch any of the rest of the series - haven't watched it properly since season 2 - but I always watch the first oepisode every year just to see what perculiar individuals they have dredged up this time.

I agree that on the videos most of the contestant sounded like pratts and deserved the boos they got... but I still hold that it is a poor reflection on us that almost all the women were booed BEFORE we had even seen their videos. Seems it is ok for a man to look attractive or 'wacky' but not a woman.

And what it has to do with equality is that I honestly don't think if was mainly men watching they would have booed all the male contestants on site and cheered the women. Agree BB is a load of trite but it still makes me sad to see the way we seem to be conditioning our next generation of girls to respond to each other.
