In having a go at a stroppy teenager

Last night I had a bit of a shout at my 17 year old,in public, middle of London, late at night.I had finished work and sorted out younger DD in order to take 16 yr old up to London from Kent to a gig.Met DH there, had meal then went to concert- everything fine BUT we had to leave venue (Shepherds Bush)10.30 in order to get back across London to K.Cross to get train home. When I gestured to DD that we had to go she v.stroppy and I tried to explain that it wasn't my fault that the band hadn't come on stage until 9.20,venue is miles from K.Cross, needed to get home so childminder could go etc....I got the "teenage" scornful look and grumbling "it's so unfair..we always miss the end of things...why can't I stay and get the next train home?" I'm afraid I then shouted at her that she was a selfish, ungrateful mare who only thought of herself, never mind that DH and myself need to get up for work in the morning, childminder needs to get home. She can lie in all day as on study leave. Of course - this morn I feel bad about my behaviour.

YABU to drive a 17 year old to a gig in London - she should be arranging her own transport by that age.

I think you were entirely justified. So no, YANBU.

don't feel bad about it

It's not like she is somehow entitled to go to a concert on a MOnday night. Of course it is a pain to leave early but it wasn't anyone's fault

Why not let her get the next train though?

I think if she wants you to take her there, she has to accept your restrictions.
If she wants to stay later and make her own way home from events, I'd want her to show she can put a reasonable plan in place (i.e. being with a group of friends, phoning to let you know when she'll be home etc.).

So YANBU - teenagers have an amazing ability to behave badly and somehow make it your fault. It's their job

YANBU. You made every effort to get her there and I imagine would have stayed longer if you had been able to.

I would have lost my patience too, but your guilt only goes to show how much you do care and what a lovely Mum you must be.

TBH, I can´t really see how one more hour would have made that much difference.

To be honest I think YABU, One more hour wasnt going to kill you, when you bought the tickets you knew it was a monday night and you knew it would be a late night. If you werent going to stay to the end or allow your daughter to stay then you shouldnt have agreed to go in the first place.
