doesn't wear ties? I went to private school and we were up to our eyeballs in straw hats, blazers, tunics etc. and the only 'uniform' DS seems to get is a logo jumper. Underneath they have the choice of a polo shirt, or a shirt, but the shirt looks so scruffy without a tie. When the snobbery novelty wears off I guess I will be glad I can bung a bunch of polos in the wash and quickly iron rather than deal with shirts every day, and lost ties and what not, but it's really put me off. His first choice at least has a P.E kit and ties. Go on, flame me, I am in a miserable grumpy mood

I went to a school that did not have a school uniform. A couple of mothers were so annoyed about this they decided upon their own uniform and sent their little darlings to school in uniform anyway. Be grateful and spend your cash on something else!

DD has the full prep school uniform with hat and blazer - and tie in the winter. Costs a fortune. I like her uniform, but it does add up.

This school sound slike you get to do simple uniform, but hopefully without the hefty shopping bill.

I can understand that you want your child to wear a PE kit. It sounds like the hideous experience I had in primary school of doing PE in knickers and vest.

However the rest of the uniform is dead practical. Can you imagine a four year old managing a tie?

I wore a school uniform my whole school life. In high school we had a summer, winter, formal, sports, house sports unform then differnt stuff if you were on school teams. I liked that we wore ties. Hated the hat though. It was neat and tidy. Long socks were a bitch though in winter when it was hot.

I think ties are daft. Generally daft in fact, but especially for small children. I much prefer the polo shirt/sweatshirt thing.

Ties for primary school kids is just odd. Not even sure I think its ok at secondary tbh. I had to wear a tie at secondary, and have never worn one since. Can't see the purpose. DD wears pinafore and polo shirt, and looks very smart. A tie would just be wierd.

Plus all that happens with ties is they get tied too short or too long, or the wrong way round, or loose around the neck ....all for peer-pressure fashion.

It's primary. I don't think I could pin him down at 11 for a comb over! I would judge more if they had girls in ties, I hate that. I hate it so much I would refuse to send a daughter with a tie - what's wrong with blouses? I was going to buy a steam press and everything. Couple of drier balls and I'll be right now!

My ds1 will be wearing a tie when he starts school in Sept, he will be having the elasticated ready tied tie to begin with which will cost all of £2.50! He gets to wear polo shirts in the summer, but Winter it is ties, shirts and jumpers. I think the school looks smart and far better than the schools locally that have gone over to jogging bottoms as uniform, which children stay in for pe.
