AIBU?

To feel a bit worried about my ds

Ds was born at 34+6 weeks, didn't need to go to SCBU, apart from slight jaundice, he was fine.

He has been fine since.

It's me that has the problem - it's so stupid but I feel like we've 'gotten away with it' iyswim, how can it be possible that a baby is born that early and there are no consequences?

I feel like we've been so lucky so far, there must be something that just hasn't reared its head yet.

Please tell me I am being U and ungrateful, set my mind at ease!

I think full term is 37 weeks +, your dates could be a few days out which means he could have been born just a few days 'early'.

Sometimes people just are lucky . If he's fine, he's fine - just enjoy him. And welcome to the wonderful world of maternal neurosis - you will always manage to find something to worry about .

Yup - you're being a bit paranoid. Sit back and enjoy the fact you didn't have to be pregnant for too long!

One day shy of 35 weeks isn't that early. Can understand your worry, but just enjoy him.

I was born at 35 weeks and I am completely normal with no long term effects. (Well that is what I think!) It does happen, so relax and make the most of him now he is here.

You are not BU or ungrateful, it's only natural to b worried about our children, but it sounds like your fears are ungrounded. My friend also had her baby at 34+6, and he is a fine and healthy 14mo, who recently started walking on his own

Good grief sorry, but that´s not early.

My brother was born at 32 weeks 35 years ago, never any health problems!

Try not to worry.

I was born at 34 weeks and didn't need any time in SCBU (or it's equivalent back then) and never had any health problems either.

Just because you asked, you're very U!

More seriously: I have two former just-over-four-pounds 35 weekers crawling around my feet right now. They're absolutely fine!

But to start with, I was absolutely convinced that they would have health problems and serious delays. None yet!

In case it helps, I'll pass on what one of the hospital midwives said in a vain attempt to reassure me (I ignored her!): 34 and a half weeks is going to be fine; some women, we nurse them along to get to 34 weeks.

You're not being ungrateful to worry though.

YprobablyABU! But I can understand the feeling. I had a struggle to get pg, bit of a risky pg, born a bit small and 'early' (36+6) by Csection, scan for spinal issues in first 2 weeks, then a refluxy baby. I have the same feelings of feeling lucky that I've got away with it, and waiting for the other shoe to drop. It got better with time - he's almost 5 and its easier to reassure yourself they are robust and healthy the older they get somehow (altho' I can still feel like that now infrequently). In my sane head I know that the problem of over-anxious waiting-for-ugly-truth-to-rear-head is in my head - its my issue, not a fact. I think when you've been very worried about them (like it sounds like you were), it can linger on. We are meant to worry about our kids, its natural, but sometimes those worries aren't based on a real foundation. Sometimes it helps for me to impassively talk myself through whether what I'm worrying about is that likely or planning what I would do even if x,y,z were to happen (although disaster planning can sometimes just focus you more on the worry). But I also try and remind myself that spending my time worrying about what might be isn't helping me enjoy what I have got right now and wouldn't actually change anything if there was something to worry about. But...you're not ungrateful, just some people are born worriers!

Thanks for your reassurance, especially those who have been there
