Well in my day, 30 years ago we didn't have this technology we have nowadays I wonder how third world countries manage without these advanced needs etc...

It just annoys me no end and is JUST STUPID, STUPID STUPID, comparison!

Now 10 years ago, we weaned at 3-4 months, its now 6 months, so should I disregard this information, because 10 years it was not new advanced research and done with new advanced technology, should I disregard this information as that not how it was done then!

Should I not have my automatic washing machine instead of my twin tub, what my mum used when I was little.

Should I have a massive twin silver cross, instead of a Phil n teds, as that's what my mum used 20 years ago, with me and my twin sister, or should I just have a cloth sling as that's what woman in third world countries do.

Whats the point in the compressions, should we not use the new technology, or should we only live in the past, and allow people to die, with what our new wonderful technology has brought for a more brighter future for our children and us as adults, to were not chained to the kitchen sink, or not seeing our other halves and having family time, as we should not use the new technology as X amount of years ago, it simply was not available.

People in the third world adapt to their society/culture as we do in ours, just because ours is more advanced with technology and new mod cons, does not mean we should not live towards the future, if we didn't have it, we would make do, we have it so we use it! Or should we not and send our children to work at childhood, and not have a education

AIBU to think this statement is just STUPID! when we live in a advanced technology country

sorry for repeating from the other thread, just a Huge bugbear of mine.

You're not Little Miss Happy today, are you?

I know what you are saying, however I think that it is a bit trite to think that all modern developments are better than what was available 30 years ago. Just because what we do today is modern, it doesn't automatically mean that it is right.

YANU, it pisses me off too.

people in third world countries and other cultures may well live easily without pushchairs, baby food, formula, central heating, mobile phones, washing machines etc, but comparing their lives to ours is completely useless as there's not enough similarity.

For instance, a women in africa or somewhere would look silly pushing a buggy around their local village (mclaren, silvercross or otherwise), because they dont need to. If a woman from said village moved to Birmingham or London, i bet she'd be trading that cloth sling for a buggy in the blink of an eye!

Oh, it's just the same as when old people say it was better in the olden days.
Was it bollocks. Women died in childbirth or of sheer exhaustion through to lack of contraception. And they were completely dependent on men and stayed in shitty marriages.
There was just as much crime, child abuse etc - they just didn't know about it
Ordinary people were confined to their own country and didn't get to see the world
Kids died because we couldn't afford or didn't have the technology or medicine.
Yeah....got to love those olden days
