I want painters to finish a few things before carpet comes on Friday. He says they will just do it on Monday when they are coming to do other rooms. They have to fill and paint a door frame, and sand and varnish a banister. On the new carpet.
Tell me I am being precious and dust sheets etc will be all ok?

He's already said he'll do it Monday so what do you think he'll say if you do "insit"?

Can you not do it or do the lower parts of the door frame and banister before the carpet comes? Then not pay him as much?

I have asked him since last Thursday if he could do it before Friday, and he just gets back to me today and says is it ok if they just do it on Monday. I just said yeah ok, bit pathetic, if I say I really want it done before then, he would probably do it, but I want to know if I am being precious wanting it done before the carpet goes down

I don't think you are.

When I paint/varnish etc, I want it to cover the whole frame or banister, so that if you lifted the carpet, it would run to the edge of the floor IYSWIM? No gap where you couldn't be arsed get to because of the carpet being there.

Also, the risk of spillage wouldn't be such an issues if your carpet is not down, and he should use sheets anyway! With or without carpet.

Oh balls to it, ask him and see what he says!

Just tell him about the carpet timing - if he prefers to do it before carpet is in place, he'll probably find a way to fit it in, but if its no issue he will probably not - either way he has to leave your carpet as he found it or he's in the poo!

he knows about the carpet already.
I guess I could do it myself but at home with poorly DS with chickenpox, so can't really do it.
I know it's a stupid thing, but we have had so much hassle with the house recently,I can't fight another battle if he drops something on the carpet!!

just phoned him, he said give him a couple of hours and he will see if he can get someone over.
i just said with the amount of hassle we have had if anything gets spilt on the new carpet I might have a nervous breakdown, which isn't far from the truth!
