to block this woman on Facebook?

I used to work with a woman a few years ago, she lives locally and we have kept in touch although I haven't seen her for a good six or seven months.

When I last saw her we were at a mutual ex colleagues wedding and she arrived with an unexpected date which whilst a little awkward seating plan wise was actually fine in the end.

It has just come to light that the man she attended the wedding with has been arrested and is looking at up to 15yrs in prison, he was caught online with child pornography that he has participated in iyswim. She is standing by him.

I have promptly blocked her, with no explanation or message, on Facebook. Another friend thought that this was unfair and that I should have explained myself. She is not a good friend, as I said, I haven't spoken to her in six months. I don't think I need to bother messaging her and I am sure she is well aware of why I have blocked her as I imagine I am not the only one.

good plan.
there is an old fashioned saying, something along the lines of , choose your friends well, because other people can tell what you are like from you friends character.
facebook laughs in the face of that wisdom.

No you shouldn't explain yourself. Shes not a close friend, and you wouldn't want to have anything to do with her in the future, so why not block her.

I would have blocked her too. I would also have said why so that she can be in no doubt. I think I would also make my comments public, so her other friends with children can take steps to look at their own privacy settings, if they have overlooked this

What's with the blocking? I would delete her as a friend, forthwith. I have deleted FB 'friends' for boring me with their incessant child-related updates - this would be a no-brainer.

5dollar...that is what blocking is! She will be deleted from the friends list & won't be able to see anything/search op etc again. It will be like OP doesn't exist on fb to this woman.

Blocking is more than just removing as a friend.

No YANBU at all.

If she has any sense at all she should realise why you have blocked her. No explanation necessary.

Arrested.....not charged or convicted?

What source have you heard this from, presumabley not the officer in charge of the case?

Who you have as your friends on FB is your prerogative....casting judgements and presuming someones guilt is not.

With friends like you, who needs enemies?

You've heard (not from her, obviously) about these charges and you've already convicted the guy. You've not listened to why she is standing by him, so you don't know whether it's because she actually believes he's innocent or if she loves him despite the crime.

IF he is guilty and gets convicted, maybe they should throw her in jail too because somehow she is guilty by association.

Wow, all this talk of presumption and the only people who have been presumptive are the last two posters on this thread.

This woman told our mutual friend as she is leaving the area as soon as she can, she didn't want people to think she had vanished into thin air. She loves him and knows that she will lose friends over this, he has admitted his guilt to her. I don't know anything about the case and whether he has been charged or convicted or anything, don't much care tbh.

I would have a polite conversation with her in the street but I don't want her having access to pictures of my child. She was someone I once considered a close friend and is someone who historically, and without this, I would want to share pictures of my DD with. This puts a different slant on it IMO.

I think blocking is better than deleting, I would rather she didn't see my name on mutual friends profiles etc. Easier all round I think?

The last two posters were questioning the limited information provided by you, the OP.

That isn't the same as being presumptious.

OP, You are so NBU that you shouldn't even have to ask and I am rather surprised that anyone would think otherwise.

Block, no need to explain and no need to feel guilty whatsoever.

YANBU. There's an old saying - "Lie down with dogs and you'll get up with fleas" aka being known by the company you keep. She's been told by him he has done this and has chosen her position. She will expect acquaintances with children to stay away from the partner of a paedophile.

How revolting, re. your last post.

YANBU I wouldn't touch this Woman with the proverbial "yours"

I wonder what the hell is going on in her head to stand by someone who has openly admitted to being a paedophile but that's a whole different issue isn't it.

Just to reiterate OP - YANBU!
