then ours could be just as good as theirs?

Theirs is used so much more than ours, which is why people refer to them all the time, but if we all actually USED ours then we could rival them? There are people all the time on here that are asking for friends or how to meet people etc and I just thought it would be nice to not have to swap sites to meet people, iyswim?

Just a thought!

Now, get thee to your local boards

(or you could all just ignore me as I am being completely stupid!! )

my local board seems to be dead... i did post there last week, but no reply, but then my board on the OTHER site has just closed down due to lack of interest.

the other board is easier to use and looks prettier i use it for listing double

BillieJackson · 07/04/2010 20:53

I agree. The other board has much much better local information - a really active noticeboard and decent local events listings.

It's a shame. MN is vastly superior in all other respects.

there is some where else? Other than MumsNet?

I simple do not believe you.

I do use my local board....

but I do agree with you

I put something on my local board just this morning

Well the only ones to blame for the local boards being so sadly underused are yourselves!
I have recently become the new Tsarina for our board and spent an hour last week adding all sorts of stuff (including a free Dr. Who exhibition in the town centre that only one person saw) and yet no bugger is looking. Grrr.

In other words, YANBU.

I don't really want to use my local board as I don't want people to be able to easy see where I am from. I allude to it sometimes, but it would be obvious if I were on the local board.

No-one uses my local board.

What, pray tell, is this other site you speak of, oh wise ones?

I have applied to be tsarina to rectify the situation of nothing happening on my lcal area.
ElleBing, I think I might have mentioned it to you the other day.

Sorry BuzzingNoise. My memory capacity is shot. Jog my memory if you would be so kind...

I found my local board and there was a tumbleweed blowing through it and a copy of Chat! dated 2006. Load of shite. If being a tsarina involves organising some people for coffee and cake, I can most certainly do that. Where do I apply?

Hello all you lovely people

Thanks for this thread OP.

While some of our local boards are thriving there are a few that need a bit more TLC

There are plans afoot to help with this but in the meantime, anyone wanting to be a Tsarina, we'd love to hear from you please drop a line to us at [email protected]

BedtimeCookeryBookReader - if you want to be anonymous on your local boards you can change names.
HTH and thanks

I added a lengthy listing to my local one when we were first able to but it disappeared into the ether so I lost interest. Might try again...

I must admit I use the other board a lot and on a regular basis to look up events and meetings in my area, as do a lot of my mummy friends. Their local listings are much better than MN. Prefer the forums here though.

Ooh, Olivia, while you are 'here' I have asked about local threads stickying on another thread.

I think this might solve a few issues as they disappear too quickly for people to see them in active convos unless they actually go to the local site all the time, whereas if they stayed on active for 24 hours then more people woudl see them.

Hello JackBauer
Aren't you busy protecting President Hassan and his annoying wife right now?

Thanks for that suggestion - I will find out why they don't stay up for longer and see whether we can fix it.

and Bamboo - that is ANNOYING - shouldn't be happening now though.

Is the other site you're referring to Netmums by any chance?

MN is known for its far more forthright debates, and posters tend to speak their mind- This requires a certain level of anonymity for most people; this ethos doesn't work so well with the meet-up boards.

The other board users aren't scared to meet up with each other because they don't call each other liars on a daily basis.

In other words, you can't have both; it's all hugs and huns and meet-ups, or it's witty, incisive debate and calling each other cunts in the middle of a recipe thread.

I know which one I prefer

Report
ElleBing · 07/04/2010 22:19

OK then I've got the right end of the stick for a change.

FWIW, I use the other site to make friends and I use this one to call people wankers. I'm lovely, aren't I?

Never get into debates on the other site because they're dull, dull, dull. They're all far too nice. Don't know if that's an insult or compliment to the MNers though!

Report
ElleBing · 07/04/2010 22:20

BTW I meant the debates are dull, dull, dull NOT the other posters who for the most part are very nice.
