AIBU?

to think dh is, infact, a fussy eater?

DH and the dcs have been away for a few days at the ILs (fanfare, trumpets, balloons etc, although lovely to have them back of course) and so for two days I have been eating things dh does not like. Whilst he maintains that he is not a fussy eater, and very grateful for all I cook for him, I think he is, actually, really rather fussy given the list of foods he will not eat:

All fish, including all shellfish.

Aubergines

Blue cheese

Pork chops

Lamb in any shape or form

Chicken that is not breast

I think that makes him quite fussy.

Otoh, the only foods I cannot eat are cucumber, oysters and natural yogurt. So am very easy to accommodate, yes?

Not sure he is really fussy but agree that there are limitations with the foods he won't eat especially if he won't eat any fish.
I couldn't live a life without fish...or aubergines for that matter

why cucumber?

it's funny as I was thinking about this today (vis a vis all the 'my child won't eat' threads)

I think his list qualifies him to be a fussy eater.

All fish, including all shellfish. Fair enough - lots don't like fish

Aubergines - fair enough

Blue cheese - ok

Pork chops - getting fussier

Lamb in any shape or form - definitely fussy

Chicken that is not breast - downright fussy fusspots

A lot of people don't like lamb either so I'd say a dislike of lamb is no fussier than a dislike of fish.

Disliking.

I give up.

I know quite a few people who hate cucumber also.

I don't know anyone who doesn't like lamb or cucumber

know loads and loads who don't like fish or aubergines

I'd call him 'boring' (as well as fussy).

Foxy and LTBR - I think you'd better agree now never to host a joint dinner party .

Re the dinner party.

Loving your qualifier there, LTBR .

Tonight I have had moussaka (moussakka?) - lamb and aubergines in the same dish! Scrummy!

Think we can beat you on the dinner party score. We had one occasion with a friend who is allergic to nuts, another who is allergic to dairy, and a third who is allergic to brassica. And I'm veggie. Dh had to think quite carefully about the menu. But we managed it without poisoning anyone.

Bibbity - can I not tempt you with a bit of tzatziki then?

I actually think any adult who has a blanket claim to not like fish just hasn't really eaten much fish since being a child. Fish is so varied in taste, texture and the way it can be cooked and eaten and a lot of it is pretty mild so not even trying it seems a bit fussy IMO.

what did you eat, edam?

(obviously not with a dairy allergy, but YKWIM)

yeH, he fussy.

What is brassica?

Report

Heh heh heh! - the weirdest thing is that I cannot eat a spicy dish (chilli or curry) without tzatziki. I actually love it! How strange is that? But I buy it ready made because I can't be doing with having the raw ingredients in the house.

broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower etc are all in the brassica family

XH was allergic to all fish/shellfish (bar tinned tuna), legumes, nuts, & coconut and probably a few more things I've forgotten about.

My cooking repertoire has expanded greatly since we split up.

The cucumber in tzatziki does taste different to fresh from the fridge, granted....the watery middle bit isn't usually that obvious in tzatziki. Maybe you could be really fussy and say you can't eat the middle watery bit of the cucumber and beat your DH at his own fussy game with his breasts are best chicken liking

display - can't really remember, this was a while ago but definitely some indian dishes. Think there was an assortment of stuff so Jonny could have e.g. tarka dahl while Richard could have brinjal bahji and so on.

My dp won't eat:
Any spice or seasoning other than salt and pepper
cheese
tomato
lamb
any game
pasta, spaghetti, rice
any vegetable bar peas and carrots
garlic
Any bread that is not white plastic bread from the supermarket

He apparantly is not a fussy eater and gets quite angry if you suggest he is.
