I am not particularly drawn to the Katie/Peter saga, but do think that they and their difficulties are a product of their media exposure & society's interest in them, so I think we should feel a little responsible, tbh.

I can't resist a bit of sleb twaddle and have just spent time trawling around for more stories about them

Katie and Peter who??

thumbwitch · 04/02/2010 15:38

they're still people when all's said and done, and although I despise their meeja-fuelled lifestyle, I still think that Peter André had an unnecessarily tough time from that "journo".

However, it doesn't dominate my life or thoughts - only when I read about it on MN or the news, then I think "that was mean" and move on.

YADDDDDNBU.

(That's a few definitelys for good measure.)

Even the adverts for their cringeworthy TV programme used to make me...well, cringe.

Lou012354 - Why shoul;d 'we' feel resonsible ? I don't watch their shows, I don't buy celeb 'mags', I don't read tabloid newspapers, I don't buy any of their endorsed products. I have no interest in them or what they do so why should 'I' feel responsible for them being torn apart by the media ? I'll leave that feeling of resonsibilty to those who read OK

if you are so 'not interested' then why start a whole new thread?

Report
southeastastra · 04/02/2010 15:48

I didn't say 'you' Sassybeast, I said 'we'. Society as a whole. Society puts people on a pedestal, then they get so screwed up, and society moves on. Car crash gawping until the clean-up crew arrives.

Yep, I agree Lou, but in the meantime they make a lot of money/gain publicity in order to make a lot of money.

I don't think society as a whole should feel responsible. Perhaps those who buy ok/hello/heat magazines and watch the "katie and whoever it is/isn't this month" show should feel responsible, after all, without a market there wouldn't be a product. I also wonder about what must be lacking in peples' lives that they feel the need to pay money to read about other peoples'.

As for peter/Katie, I certainly don't care, although on balance I dislike her far more than I dislike him, but I think they have only themselves to blame if people despise them.

there isn't enough money in the world to stuff in the huge aching hole where katie price's soul should be.

I know you didn't mean 'me' personally but I'm part of society and to blame 'society' means blaming me I think it's the get out clause that sleb hawkers use when things turn bad. When OK published obituary editions for Jade Goody before she was dead, 'society' was blamed for feeding the demand. Errr - I certainly didn't feed the demand for mawkish pictures of a dying woamn, neither did my friends or family. So saying that 'society' is to blame is really just people who buy this shite justifying their actions when the media oversteps the mark.

YANBU! I cannot stand her to the point where I turn over the tv now if I see her face! I also refuse to buy mags with her on the cover (unfortunately however she usually lurks within)

I think that that particular dog has had her day
