If severe - go to A&E instead

Go to A&E flossie, call an ambulance if there's no one to take you, don't stay like this.

I hope you are OK.

Its due to sciatica. The pain relief I have been prescribed is not touching it. Also my 7 yr old is asleep and I can't leave her.

The only way you will be able to get any pain relief is by going to A&E. Have you tried calling the GP's surgery? They normally leave the number for the out of hours, it may be a different one to the one you have. You'll have to wake her and take her with you.

Ring the local police number - they should have the contact details for the local GPs and resolve the Out of Hours number being out of order problem

Thanks for your replies.
I rang another local surgery and managed to get put through to out of hours.
They are going to sort out some thing as they think my muscle has gone into spasm.
Sounds mad but I can't bend my leg to get into car to go there.
waiting for call back now.

Just an update, I didn't get to casualty in the night. I couldn't get my Dh to wake up or my Dd.
Was awake until about 4am, got a bit of sleep until, woke again at 5.45am.
Decided then that I would wake them both at 7.30, as I remembered there is a new walk in centre opened in the city. After they had some breakfast. Went there and doctor said I definately needed more pain relief-Solpadol. Then had to wait another hour in town, as its Sunday - shops can't open until 10am.
Finally home again at 10.45- straight to bed pain relief taken.
managed a bit more sleep- my Dh then came and said I'm off to the gym to give you some peace- DD will be fine playing downstairs.
I feel so cared for, NOT.
At least the tablets are easing things and I have been told to return to the GP tomorrow, to review treatment- as doctor was worried the nerves may stop me from passing urine or stools, because spasm was so severe. told me if that happens I will be in hospital -as classed as medical emergency,I feel so reassured

Blimey, your DH sounds a right charmer. Couldn't get him to wake up? In an emergency like that? Hope you continue to feel better...

My Dh is usually great, but I do feel let down today and quite angry with him.
To be honest, even though I was in dreadful pain, I would not have been comfortable with taking my dd into A&E on in the middle of a Saturday night - she would have been terrified.
Don't worry I have made it quite clear I don't think he stepped up to the mark when I wanted him too.
Also I thiknk the NHS were crap in thier help last night.

God my typing is rubbish -sorry.
I couldn't drive (because of pain) and we live in a village miles from town.
I know now I wasn't thinking straight, but I have to look on the bright side, that the pain is under control now.

I am glad that the pain killers are working as I have been there recently with sciatica and am also on Solpadol. I can also recommend heat packs - I have invested in an electric pad which really helps but a hot water bottle would help as well. I was told by a physio that heat helps.

Hope you feel better soon.

I just wish I knew what had set it off. Everyone keeps saying I had that when I was pregnant and I'm definately not.
I have to take Solpadol and diclofenac - will be rattling soon.
Going to ask for referral to physio tomorrow at the Gp's . I don't want to be taking these for long, I have a big fear I won't be able to stop taking them and become reliant on them.

LadyintheRadiator- yes he is a good Dad, I wasn't thinking properly last night, probably because of the pain.
I posted in the first place as I was incredulous that we are encouraged to phone NHS direct and not just call A&E / ambulances for little things. I thought, maybe incorrectly, that what was happening to me was minor enough not to go there, but in hindsight it must have been worse than I thought. The ramifications of which could be quite serious.
Well as they say you live and learn.

Been back to the Gp . he now has me taking 3 lots of meds( me who rarely takes a paracetamol) and it goes against the grain.
I have to take for 3-4 days ,if no improvement , go back. Diagnosis is now a prolapsed disc, have to monitor bowel /urine output as this is classed as an emergency if
it stops ( sorry TMI).
If all fails he's talking about referral to orthopod's.I want to avoid that if at all possible.
I am determined I will get better, mind over matter and all that.
Beyyer go now before drugs kick in again and I type even more dreadfully than I do now.
Thanks everyone.
