Normally I pile right in, but lately I am just feeling- nah why bother, maybe things that matter tome but I am wasting energy on people who won't ever chnage their minds or quite likely even read my posts.

Being me takes a lot of energy, what's the point of debating things on repeat esp. on a few things* if you know pOP has strong opinions and no history of listening anyway.

*I promise this isn't about any specific threads, just feeling lately about being always worthy / wrong / stuck on repeat

i hear you!

i think it is a mn growing up process. there are many many more times now that i write a long ranty post and then just delete it.

altho i'm still prone to a dust up when the mood takes me!

Does it depend what the post is? Or is what mood you're in? I someitmes can't be arsed even if it's something I feel strongly about but other times I just wade right in. I wonder if it's hormonal?

i used to be unable to avoid wading into any debate where people were discussing a topic where i had a strong opinion or personal experience..

i have since learnt that they are the exact threads to stay away from!

tis better for the blood pressure

it does depend on what sort of mood I'm in. If I'm feeling a bit "meh" then I just delete my reply.

Peachy · 17/01/2010 18:55

Soph I've done that lately, composed OP's and responses then deleted them.

Maybe I am just Too Old.

I know what you mean. I no longer bother with threads about children eating grapes in supermarkets, disabled parking, faith schools, immigration, etc.

Ten bloody eyars of my life in MAy, can't get them back can I? And no word of a lie, I have a callous on my pointing finger where I type the hardest LOL.

Half the problem is of course that I dorecognise the names that won't listen or the circular arguments and know when to get out in time.

But after typing almost word for word the same post on three threads last week, I did start to seemy life flashing before my eyes...

Yanbu.

Just keep out if you are not in the mood.

Sometimes I am, usually I can't be arsed and leave it.

peachy was it the one about cameron's 'parents are what it's all about' thread?

i was on there with you and you did amazingly (i was arguing against you sort of, but you were persuading me massively because you were so honest).

those posts were not in vain i tell you!

Not sure Sopha- I can't remember that thread title but that'sprobably becuase there are so very many of them ATM

I now avoid anything where there is evidence of p[arty politics in the title, not worth it-peoplewho post there know what they think already,MN is hardly a beginners ground these days is it?

Ias thinking I hadn'tsen you in ages as well- oops

I find I am getting a bit bored of MN at times and also less tolerant and will post what I really think. Other times I delete it all.

Someone told me that research had proved that nothing posted on internet boards ever changed people's views, anyway.

how DARE oyu say that
imo any thread where peopel are bolding names has lost any sense.

Report
GetOrfMoiLand · 18/01/2010 09:15

Lol at bolding.

Also, when people are C&Ping huge reams of nonsense from wikipedia, and then knobhead comes on and primly types 'where is there evidence of empirical research' that is when I bow out of a thread.

Or, any thread with CAPS in title (aka STEINER THREADS OF DOOM).

I am still enough of a newbie to enjoy the parking in toddler parking spaces threads. However I have been here long enough to realise the fun doesn't lie in posting earnest and sincere arguments, it comes when you go on the wind up and (every so slightly) take the piss.

you know, I now just post on the threads that I'm certain I am in the right on. and never, EVER start an AIBU thread unless I know for sure that IANBU

lol custy. its the man-bashing that gets me at times. the woman is allowed to behave however she likes because the man has "driven her to it"

I totally agree Peachy. I can't be bothered with the barneys when there are posters who are just going to stick to their point of view no matter how fantastically brilliantly it is countered.

Actually I steer clear of the anti gay sentiments because they really upset me. It's all the more upsetting to learn that some of those expressing the opinion are otherwise bright and reasonable people.

Peachy, Custy and Soph - I'm often impressed by your debating skills. You are all articulate, grown up and honest with your opinions and I'm always glad to see you on threads.

Perhaps it's best to remember that just because a small minotiry of rabid bigots posters with strongly held views are ignoring intelligent debate, there are probably plenty of other less vocal posters who are keen to learn and are influenced by sensible debate.

I am normally quite happy to post on any subject, however I have just retreated scared from the Nestle in Haiti thread.

Actually 95% of my time here is spent on trivial and daft threads, where serious debate is not required, however I have been drawn into the homesexual bashing comments which have abounded recently. Found them very upsetting in teh end so am certainly avoiding certian posters from now on.
