To expect Tesco not to take my money if they cancel the delivery...

... or at least sort the refund without being chased for it. I do not post very often but this made me really upset and this might serve as a warning to other that had they delivery canceled due to the weather.

They were due a delivery last week, they canceled but still took my money, 2 days later for some reason. Was never advised that I had to ring customer services to sort out the refund. I end up going to the nearest supermarket not aware that I was £80 short.
Only on checking my account I found out that it shows as delivered and the money taken out but no sign of refund. Only by chance I did not go overdrawn over my limit, as I had some emergency expenses this week. I am really annoyed and once I have my money back will no longer shop at Tesco and will cancel my account.

I think it is a pretty shoddy way to do business. Asda only takes the money from the account once the goods are actually delivered, so if they can do it that way I can't Tesco. I wonder how many people are in the same situation without realising it as not everybody checks their account daily.

Now it will take 3-5 days for the money to be back in my account which means I might not be able to food shop until end of next week. I am sorry for the long rant but I am really annoyed!

I didn't think they took money out of account until it went through the till in the shop, or however they do it, once it's all been picked. The guide price it shows in the checkout bit isn't the actual charge because all the offers have to be taken into account.
Isn't it like that then?

I've had a couple of sainsburys order cancelled because of the snow (they have been great and called to warn me I probably wouldn't get them) and even though the money has come out of my account it has automatically been refunded and appeared back in my account a couple of days later. No chasing from me.

No Asda does it like that, everyone assumes Tesco does the same but apparently not, just checked their Terms & conditions, payment is taken on the day of delivery whether goods are delivered or not!

Asda is worse! Asda take a 'ghost payment' the moment you place the order, then a real one when they deliver, and often fail to release the ghost payment so you end up paying twice over until they bank releases it.

Tesco cancelled my delivery and didn't charge me. They only take payment a few hours before delivery usually.

Sounds like you have had bad luck - shout and yell and they will give you a voucher. Demand nothing less than free delivery and money off the next one. But seriously, Asda are far worse than tesco. Will never ever use asda home delivery again.

OP, that's rotten, but I would stick with insisting on some substantial voucher/discount code or something rather than totally cancelling your account. Because after all, when it works properly it is quite handy and you don't want to limit your own options for future shopping.

Just get as much back from them to compensate as you can. Tell them you don't want to take your business elsewhere but feel you have no choice if they are going to expect you to put up with being unable to buy food for your family when it's THEIR fault! Hopefully they will grovel and give you stuff.

Absolutely what kat2907 said.

I will never use Asda again for the very same reason.

Tescos took my money twice and I had to prove it to them. It then took them over a fortnight to return. This then took us over our overdraft limit so we got charged (£75). I then had to prove this to tesco and they did pay the fine but I had to find the money to cover it before it came through meaning we had to do a lot of juggling and go without for a bit

This happened to me with my Tesco Christmas shop. I had to wait over a week (after Christmas) for my money back. They also gave me £15 vouchers as compensation.
