Daddy Pig seems to fit many negative male stereotypes while Mummy Pig is always portrayed as the better of the two. Can this be a good thing for children to learn? It doesn't particularly offend me but just wondered if anyone else had noticed?

YANBU. It's been very much noted in our house too - my DH finds it quite an offensive programme in the message it portrays to small children about their male parent.

I've seen daddy pig fail at DIY, map reading and cutting the grass and he gets comments about his "round tummy" every episode. I wonder if he cries himself to sleep every night

My stepfather is appalled by Peppa Pig. My DD, my mother and I love it. But I think you're right. Poor Daddy Pig.

Daddy pig is a great, loving, caring parent.

If he has a few slapstick moments along the way so be it....I think Peppa Pig is brilliant and love watching it with DS.

I'd say it has equally outdated female stereotypes. Peppa and her friends mostly play at fairies, dolls and princesses and when they get out books at the library the boys get 'action' while the girls get nurses etc. Hello, 21st century??!

Daddy Pig does profess to be an 'expert' at everything and then has no bloody clue. Yes he's overweight but still did the fun run, yes he's a bit lazy (Mr Potato episode) and no I doubt Mummy Pig is 'getting any' but he's also a very hard working architect so clearly ambitious and well educated (although mummy pig does also work from home, in between playing the Happy Chicken game with George) but the bloke manages to get home in time for the kids bed most nights and George and Peppa love jumping up and down in muddy puddles with him.

My 2yr old DD really LOVES it. Can you tell?

i've nnot yet watched it (dd only 9 months and i'm trying to put off children's programmes for as long as possible...) but by the sounds of it the daddy pig is similar to mine...who enjoys and plays up on the idea of being a bit daft!

I care very much about the pigs Theochris, you are not alone! Yes, Daddy Pig does have his buffoon moments, but I actually love him. He is never grumpy with his children and is always doing lovely spontaneous things with them, like taking them out in their jammies into the garden to watch the stars. He laughs at himself when he gets things wrong without going into a male strop, and he can ballroom dance, and he does the housework. I'd marry him if I could
