We bought a large artificial tree 3 years ago, the type where you have to re-assemble it each year by attaching all the branches on each and every level and then sort of fluff them out.
This year when we tried to assemble it the holes/slots in the plastic collar into which you insert all the metal branch stems are shearing away when you try to insert the branch leaving a partial slot which the won't actually hold a branch.
I took the relevant parts back to the major chain DIY store where we bought it from 3 years ago and was told that as it's over a year old I have no chance of a refund. I got the main head office customer service number and they said it must be down to how we stored it this year but this was no different to any other year, it was in the bottom of the built in wardrobes in our spare room. We "discussed" the matter politely and after the chap had consulted a colleague he said that it is technically a consumable and they therefore do not accept responsibility for it not being re-usable year after year.
So basically we paid out the cost of about 5 real trees to get an artificial tree that has lasted for 2 Christmases/3 years of ownership and is now defunct baring perhaps a heroic repair attempt with lots of superglue.
I am MIGHTILY PISSED OFF and will be buying my DIY goods elsewhere from now on.
Has anyone else had similar problems ?
Will I get into trouble if I name the store ?
I am hopping mad !
