and it's your bussiness because?

Maybe they transport people alot - ie clubs/activities/family members etc.

Maybe they need the space for other items ie dogs.

Do you know what their plans for the future are. Maybe they've found out she's pg with twins/triplets and haven't told anyone yet.

We've have 2 dc's and had to replace our car recently so bought a 7 seater, it's bigger than necessary at the moment but we haven't ruled out the possibility of more dc's arriving before we can change again.

None of your business.

Some woman shouted at me the other day for having a 7 seater car. At the time I had only 3 children in it, but frequently the seats are full and the boot contains 2 cellos. Not that I felt the need to justify myself to her. Last time I checked it was ok for me to spend my money on any car I choose.

well i have 2DDs and didn't go for a 7 seater when changing our car last year. standard estate instead.
oh now i wish i had. they can only have one friend over at a time for tea (can't fit 3 car seats on the back seat and i refuse to "wedge" a child in like the other mums seem to think is ok)

going to parties, again, those with 7 seaters can take a few kids, i can only ever take an extra one.

when we go away for weekends or out with friends, those with 7 seaters drive us so we all go in one car. fantastic.

we only have one child, and one on the way, but we have an S-Max which we love. It has been so useful - we went to France with the inlaws - not in itself a great idea, but thats a different thread/topic for therapy - but we fit everyone in plus luggage, which made it far easier to go out on day trips etc.

We also have just used it to transport an entire kitchen from IKEA, and next week we are going to help a friend move house. Its great - like a really versatile van. I cant stand going places with friends in two cars - it seems so wasteful.

I never liked people carriers but we have 1DC and 1 on the way. We borrowed my mum's people carrier last week as a one off (she had to get one for her many grandchildren who she minds frequently) and it felt so safe and comfortable and means no leaning down to buckle DS in with a bump in the way so we'd like to get one.

And why not? They really do make life easier.

Now ad you asked 'AIBU to wonder why people who drive people carriers often don't seem to know the dimensions of their car' I would have agreed with you as they do seem to take up a lot of road and over estimate the size of the car... but it must be difficult to get used to.

Would you also like to see single child families restricted to 2 bedroomed houses?

You are being very unreasonable.

Do you know the family? If not, perhaps left the dogs at home? I can't get dogs/buggy/kids all at once in my car, and have to choose various combinations.Usually leave kids at home alone

i thought it was funny when i bought my current car from a couple who were expecting their first and saying they needed something bigger.

is big enough for me and two boys! some people feel safer i suppose in honking great cars. don't get it myself.

maybe they need a big car to drive to prep school and squash all the state school children out of the way

I have a people carrier and I love it. I mostly drive it around either alone or with my daughter. I suspect people think the same of me when they see me, men certainly can't stand being overtaken by me. But, like I need to defend my choice of car, it gets filled on a regular basis by my husband's friends going to away matches. And family holidays. And transporting furniture. And shopping.

My brother went to private school, and no we were not rolling in cash, he got a grant because they wanted him in the choir at the cathedral next door.

Nah, one child and 4 door Clio here. It's good for parking as quite often the people trucks can't get into the spaces I can.

I freely admit I don't get the huge car thing though. My brother thinks I'm nuts not getting the biggest car we can.

Extra seats are handy, even if you don't need them all the time.

We help with a youth group a lot at home and it makes life a lot easier to load all the kids up. Good for going out for dinner with family as well. Means one designated driver/one car on road/one set of parking fees etc.

Can put seats down and use as truck so can save on delivery fees for big stuff.

Very handy having a car with 7 seats.

If the engine is no bigger than a standard car then I don't see the problem. I think very thirsty cars are environmentally selfish.
People who choose prep schools leave more cash in the pot for children at state schools surely??

My people carrier is far more practical than a normal car, you can take all 5 back seats out and have a huge load space, we can fit a double divan in it, it was a godsend when moving our dd to Uni too.
I use it just for me every day, it's got a better turning circle than most cars and takes up no more room than something like a mondeo, it also does 55 mpg and leaves boy racers standing at the lights 'cos it pulls like a train.
I love it, oh, and we only have the one daughter!
It's a VW Sharan so not enormous.
I would never go back to a normal car, if I drive my husband's car or my dd's fiesta I hate it.
