AIBU?

To more or less understand why the taxi drivers would object to this?

There is a lot about Switzerland I don't like, car seats for example, at least where I live, aren't compulsory however

Now it seems that children travelling in taxis are to be provided with car seats. While this can only ever be a good thing, as the story illustrates they will have to carry four.

My dh is a taxi owner/driver here in the UK and they don't need to provide car seats unless doing school contracts and even then the council provide them most cars don't have the room.

In Germany they are meant to provide car childseats. In Berlin they usually had integrated seats to pull out in teh Mercedes taxis and if they didn't they had boosters in the back. No idea how they do it with really small dc or babies. Sometimes we had to wait for a different taxi if the driver didn't have childseats.

TBH, we don't take taxi's because they are so expensive and we have a car. I have to admit to being totally astonished about the car seat law when we moved here. I have been unable to find out when/if my dd can sit in the front seat with me. Even the canton police can't tell me (you can bet they'd fine me though if it is against the law). My dd is very cross about having to sit on a booster but it's a good stick to beat her with regarding food. 'If you eat more you'll grow enough so you don't need to sit on the booster'.

Does this law apply to black cabs? Surely not?

morloth the carseat law doesn't apply to taxi's at all in UK, unless doing school contracts which I presume black cabs don't usually do.
