No highchairs because of health and safety?

I had a doctors appointment today, our doctors surgery is within a big shopping center/supermarket. There is a supermarket, a chemist, a hairdressers, card shop, some independent shops, a bakery and a cafe. Whenever i have a docs appointment, because i don't drive, i leave early so i have time to spare without running about, and we have a tea in the cafe.
Today they tell me that they no longer have highchairs "because of health and safety". When did this happen? I work in a food court, but am on maternity leave so don't know if this is a new rule or anything? Surely it is more safe to have a one year old in a highchair than sitting on a bit chair?

Sorry i just read over that, it sounds pointless listing everything in the center, but what i meant was it is a large shop, not just a small family run cafe.

it means it's not their responsibility -- they are back-covering

if they provide a "safe" chair which child falls out of they can be sued i suppose

if they don't: they can't, and you have to sort out how you want child at the table, and the responsibility is yours

Yeah, i know it isn't hard to leave a kid in a buggy. I have a double buggy and if i sat it at the end of the table no one would get passed. The cafe has a wider area for disabled customers to put wheel chairs in, but obviously it is different with a buggy.

So is it just this one place, or are highchairs being removed from everywhere? They had highchairs last Thursday.

Our local Asda cafe got rid of their highchairs becuase they were ones which you strapped to the adult dinig chairs and they had a few "accidents" - so maybe they mean their own H&S policy, rather than revised legislation.
