Seriously.

No matter how early I get up. No matter if I put clothes out the night before. No matter if I prepare breakfast in advance. DH, DS, and I cannot get out of the house in time for us to get to work on time!

I feel like my mornings are constant triage of what's most important- do I make sure my hair is totally dry or do I swipe on some makeup as to not frighten the six year olds at work with my puffy, crabby morning face? Do I look for my hat or tie my shoes? Do I wipe the banana off DS' hands or let him wear a pajama shirt under his overalls?

AAAAHHHH! If I get a divorce and/or end up in a mental institution, you can be sure my decline will be linked to weekday mornings. UGH.

So...AIBU?

YANBU. I have exactly the same thing. We can be on target to leave and somehow the last few things we have to do always derail us. It's so frustrating.

YANBU. No matter how early I get up I still end up running around like a headless freaking chicken 5 mins before due to go out. I grin merely because I sympathise. I do have a top tip for hair drying though (assuming you go to work in a car) car blower/heater things are great for drying hair. Stick them on, turn them in the right direction and as if by magic by time I get to work dry hair . Only a 5 min journey as well.

I often wear a hat for dropping off DCs then straighten my attempt at a hairdo at the office

Sometimes a cup of tea, alone, downstairs, helps.

But mostly I am just not a morning person.

yanbu. I find that getting up before ds helps though, otherwise I have to keep amusing him while trying to get myself ready etc.

thank heavens for this thread, last time there was one about leaving on time there were lots of Miss Prim and Proper types going on about how they always manage to be half an hour early and the rest of us are merely slackers...

Lol I think most people have difficulty getting out of the house!. The only way I am not late is having a really well planned out morning and accepting that sometimes my 9 month old goes to school with her pjs under her snowsuit. I wrote down what time I need to do things which helped a bit although beware telling anyone in real life you do this - they always laugh.

YANBU

I get up at 5.30 am some mornings and still do not get everything done that should be done before leaving the house.

I think it is just what happens if there is no SAHP in a house. You have to do a lot of the things a SAHP does during the day, but you have to do them first thing in the morning. The morning is a bit of a horror but I don't want to give up any of the things that make it so busy because ultimately they are worthwhile.

The alternative view is that I am a disorganised person who is, as DH puts it, always flying in by the seat of my pants.

lower your standards
shower+hairwash the night before
make the kids take responsibility for themselves
pretend you feel serene
make sure dh is doing his bit and not faffing about in the bathroom like mine tends to

Great idea elliepac, unfortunately I walk to work.

It's become something of a joke at the school where I work...I always come flying in at the last second, shoes untied, crazy damp hair everywhere, and panting from having just made a mad dash across the park. Hey, at least I'm getting my cardio in.

I do try to shower the night before but sometimes I'm just too done in by the end of the day. Will work on it!

Yes, I'm glad most people seem to agree instead of being all, "What are you talking about, I manage to serve a three course breakfast and get my immaculately dressed children to school with plenty of time for me to read the New York Times before I slide into my fantastic job at least 15 minutes early." Barf.
