AIBU?

to think brightly coloured cushions would look lovely on a blue couch?

DH says I am, and that it would be tasteless

I think it would brighten a dull room with magnolia walls and wooden floors - I fancy lime green or hot pink, he wants tasteful neutrality, we can't agree.

so MNet jury AIBU?

Tasteful neutrality is code for not much imagination go for the colour

Well, I have a lime green sofa, so unsurprisingly I'm with the 'go for it' brigade!

step away from the Linda Barker catalogue.

BTW If you use the phrase accent colour people are allowed to throw things at you

looks like I'm right as usual

Though, I know so little about interiors that I have no idea what an accent colour is, or who Linda Barker is Feel free to throw cushions.

This lack of expertise is why DH feels free to slag off my notions of style, I just think bright colours look nice

I have a dark blue denim sofa with red kelim scatter cushions from IKEA and it looks great.

OOh,hot pink & lime green.

Any pics?

We also have a v. neutral room-the only colour being the kind of pale orange sofa with the very bright cushions, chosen by husband, which look great.

And which I said wouldn´t go.

Do you live in my house? (and if so could you please tidy up before I get home )

I have magnolia sand coloured walls, wooden floors and a blue sofa. Does a pink and yellow Haahoo cushion count?

You DH know nothing.

That is what cushions are FOR, - a cheap, risk-free way of bringing colour into the room and ringing the changes when bored

Have you thought about a wall with an accent wallpaper ?

nothing can be worse than the old-lady cushions we have on the settee.
but they're not manky and also have to contend with cats' hair all over them

so, because i can't, please go for it and have lime green and shocking pink cushions on your blue sofa.

i think it sounds lovely.

60 minute makeover is SHOCKING!

Report
AvrilH · 12/10/2009 16:57

Daisy it was similar ones that I wanted to buy - but probably not as good quality since they were £5 from Au Naturale

DH made jibes about my taste and we then spent too much of our Sunday wandering around home furnishings departments with me saying "boring!" and him saying "ridiculous!"

I wouldn't mind but the sofa is uncomfortable without said cushions and now we are stuck without any...

Well, for that price, can you just buy a couple of each colour?

OOhhh and I did see 60 minute makeover for the first time today, agree it was SHOCKING!

This poor person comes back to find that a stylist who has never met them has madeover their house to make it trendy, ripping out bespoke furnishings etc which the homeowner has chosen themselves. They are presented with the surprising fait accompli on camera, by their loved ones, and have to look pleased. I wonder what they do about the people who are gutted?

Are there none that you agree on?

Yes, sometimes shocking (last week the lady in question could hardly hide her pissed-offedness at her friends surprising her like that, and I can't believe they get a good finish in 60 minutes), but they often have nice wallpaper
