AIBU?

...To be upset no one has offered to help me out in this power cut?

I am nearly 34 weeks pregnant, tired, big and hormonal. I have two sisters & mum & dad who live local but are not affected by this power cut (that has been on going since yesterday and not likely to be fixed any time soon).

All the food in my fridge / freezer has had to be thrown out, we have no electric which means no hot water or cooking facilities (we dont have gas).
None of the above relatives (PIL are away on holiday and would help us out) or infact local friends have rung and offered to have us over for dinner, or if i need a bath or any help.
I am particularly at my mum as she knows how horrid i've been feeling.

I'm so tired & upset after a long day at work I can't even ring anyone for fear of loosing my temper and having a go, its just not worth it!

so.... am I being uneresonable?

It's only been a day. Why don't you ring and ask? I'd be happy to help someone in your position if asked, but may not think to offer.

I bet they just haven't thought
We have quite a few power cuts where we are - we did get a compensation payment from the power company for one when we were out for about 3-4 days (they say freezer food okay for 24hrs - and we lost our xmas food shop that time) ...so might be worth you looking into that.

Do they know you are affected by the power cut?

Poor you, sounds awful, perhaps if they have gas heating/water/cookers they dont realise how badly affected you are but agree they should help

it's light until 10pm and you still have running water presumably.

Most of the takeways in the area are not open either as they have no power.

mumtobe23 - were you at home for your 3 hour power slot?
At present it is 3 hours on, 6 hours off. EDF have info on their information line.

BTW - YANBU. My mum and dad live in the area affected whilst I live just outside. My freezer is ful of their stuff (though it would prob have been ok, freezers last for ages as long as you don't open the door) and I offered them to come round for a shower today. Luckily they have a gas hob so have been able to cook and drink tea.

I preict a baby boom in 9 months time (tho not from my mum and dad - lol)

If you want, ask. Don't sit and wait and then get huffy when no-one offers.

Mind-reading isn't common to most of the population, so ring and ask if you could pop over and use their bath/shower/washing machine.

My mum doesn't ask and then gets stroppy and it drives me nuts (mind you, I'm pg and hormonal too )!
