To buy school unifrom in June

crockydoodle · 12/06/2009 16:39

Was in M&S today and saw it was 3 for 2 on school uniform so picked up some shirts, polo shirts, socks, pinafore and skirt for my 4dc.
My SIL thinks I am sad and that the last two weeks in August will be ok to buy uniform.

YANBU

I just printed out the list for DD's uniform for next year as she moves from preprep to prep and was thinking of getting some of it sorted now, esp as I know that John Lewis have had some ordering issues and some items like winter coats (which I don't need luckily) have 10 week waits.

Just remember they grow like weeds over the summer holidays.

Speaking as somone who's been caught out this way before. [doh]

YANBU but I agree with Frogs it may have been wise to buy them a size too big.

Hulababy a ten week wait for a winter coat soudns horrifying. Thankfully DD's looks as if it will fit into next year so we shouldn't need one

Hey BALD.

A tip re. shoes. Three kids later I have cracked the August school shoe nightmare. You can now buy a start rite footgauge from the website. Then you measure your dc's feet and enter the figures into the startrite website. They will then tell you what size you need. Then you go to Shoes For Kids and order startrite shoes at half price, and they arrive pretty much the next day.

Kerching!

You are vair clever

I am on my way to the start rite site right away

why on earth not ! I help at our 2nd hand uniform sale and there were many September joiners whose parents came along to the most recent one. Shoes are the biggest pita so get sorted with the rest while you can.

yanbu at all. They are having a second hand sale at ds new school and John Lewis are coming next week so hopefully will get everything we need for Sept.

I have 3 ds and a dd so have never worried if things are grown out of before they are worn out as they can get passed down.
In fact for this year's holiday, the sandals have all been passed down one child. They are only worn on holidays so are like new. SIL would never dream of saving money like that

Got the school badge uniform today and ordered the bits that weren't in. Also with 3 DCs it's all going to be handed down anyways.

I don't think that June is too early at all, was in ASDA trying to find grey trousers for DS and they had n-o-t-h-i-n-g in his size.
Now just have to remember shoes at the end of the holidays.

I have just ordered loads of trousers and polo shirts for DD2 on Asda's website!

Last year I got a few pairs for her in store - they fitted a treat and washed and wore really well so I went back in October/November time to get some more as they were only £2 a pair. Could I get them? Could I heckers.

So I have just ordered her half a dozen pairs in the next size up - how organised am I?

I have just ordered uniform from M&S for Sept under the 3for2 banner and free delivery.

I cannot do with the hassle later on.

I wanted to do it last week butDS1's new school haven't given us a uniform list yet. Hope the 3 for 2 will be on for a few days yet.

YANBU. I bought four sweatshirts from the school 3 weeks ago. 4 white polo shirts in Asda last week as they were on offer and I've just bought two pairs of trousers ... on offer in Asda ... 2 for £5.

Only thing I buy nearer the time are shoes.

I bought DS's trousers and polo shirts in Feb when Adams had the administrators sale online. It was extremely cheap and brought enough for this September and the one after. DS doesnt grow very fast so easy to stock up for.

Shame they didnt have the jumpers on offer as they wash lovely, did think of trying the 3 for 2 from Marks but the jumpers looked very thin instore so will stick to Next.

I never buy until later now - as the few times I have my "child that doesn't grow very much" has always had a massive growth spurt over the summmer and I've ended up having to buy new stuff 1/2 way through the school year.

YANBU at all.

I usually buy early. Last year I forgot something, PE shorts I think, and went at the send of August to be met with a scene of total decimation in the school wear sections of several stores.

I even buy school shoes at the beginning of the holidays to avoid the last minute scrum. My boys don't grow that fast and they are sized with growing room in mind.
