Do you not normally drink, and was the person doing the cooking aware of this? Or is he/she just a bit rubbish at cooking (because generally when you use wine/brandy for flavouring most of the alcohol boils off).

It probably covered the taste of the burnt bits.

Should have taken a cab home.

Yabu you did not have to eat it and if you seriously thought you may be over the limit you should have called a taxi.

So she's a bad cook. there's enough of us around.

BodyBagEgg · 17/04/2009 00:10

how would i know if i was over the limit though?

it was a layer cake.
i would say it was probably made as a cake then soaked in brandy then covered in cream.

it was so strong it was horrible.
you could have set it alight

Use the 'even one drop' principle.

It's not her fault. She was trying to do something nice for you.

YABU and ungrateful. If she is such a terrible cook why did you accept the invite to dinner?

Report
BodyBagEgg · 17/04/2009 00:18

because it's family

whats the one drop? never have a drop?

If there's one drop of alcohol, not a glass, one drop, then you don't drive. Easy!

Feel sorry for your family if you get invited to dinner and then come on here and bitch about it Hope this is a wind up!

I love the word 'ingrate'. It's very underused.

Actually, re the driving, it is a bit of a problem. There was a case a few years ago where a bloke was over the limit due to a boozy pud - he hand't realised how much booze was in it. I think he got lenient treatment cos it really was a mistake.

How rude.

I can understand about the driving issue but you sound very ungrateful and unpleasant. So you don't drink - and? She wasnt't asking you to drink. BTW the alcohol in the chicken would have been driven off by cooking.

YABU and a bit mad.

I rarely cook anything without wine, it flavours it - there is no alcohol left.

If you didn't want the brandy pudding you could have politely refused.

sorry but YABU, so she's a bad cook and uses alcahol in food, so? at least she made you a meal. And chicken cooked in wine, the alcahol in the wine burns off while cooking, so that would have been fine. You didn't have to eat much pudding, apologized and explained you were driving.
Was lovely to have a freind cook for you imo.
