My partner had his daughter christened at the age of 9 and started taking her to church school once a week, simply to get her into a catholic secondary school. I remember saying to him when he told me "so, are you Catholic then?" and he said "sort of, a non practicing Catholic I suppose".

He kept asking me what I was. I always said Athiest (which is true). He said "if you get the kids christened and take them to church school, you'll get them in (good secondary school). I said "But we're athiests" he replied "so am I, but I still did it"

Anyway, I've been reading up a lot on Buddhism. It interests me greatly, not that I'm a believer of course ... I just find Buddhism more interesting than the other religions and like to learn about it. DP found this out and also started reading up on Buddhism. He said last night "You're so right, Buddhism does make more sense than the other religions! I think I'm Buddhist/Pagan" I think he expected me to say "I'm Buddhist too" but I replied "Well, I'm still Athiest" he then backtracked and said "actually, I'm more of a believer in nature, earth and it's animals"

FFS, don't you just hate it when people don't have their own mind?? how offputting.

AIBU??

I was quite interested in Buddhism until I got to the part about forgoing carnal pleasures

YANBU I think..having said that I was brought up as a Catholic but am very lapsed..have flirted with Buddhism which I think is a lovely, calm philiosophy (my mum is a Buddhist) but I'm now thinking of Quakerism (similarly calm philosophy) - I like to mix and match really...but I wouldn't say I'm a Catholic/Buddhist/Quaker

PMSL at "I'm more of a believer in nature, earth and it's animals"

Is your DP at 14 year old girl?

I'd be worried if he didn't believe in nature, earth and it's animals......

Trillian - I suspect the 'earth and it's animals' thing came from me recently joining an animal rights campaign.

If I joined a Scientalogist cause he would probably become a great believer in that too its driving me nuts.

How can anyone not believe in "nature, earth and it's animals"?

I have seen them with my own eyes. David Attenborough would back me up on this one, too.

You can think a religion's philisophy or way of life is good and correct without 'being a member' of that religion. IMO in order to be a 'religion' at all it has to involve some supernatural-type stuff as well as just 'we think this is the best way to lead our lives'.
