To think there is no need to talk like a docker/fishwife?

I was on the bus yesterday and this woman got on and sat behind me. The bloke she was with sat behind her ( not sure why they couldn't just sit together).

Anyway she starts talking to him quite loudly:

"I'm fucking starving. That sandwich in town was shit, tasted like fucking plastic"

I couldn't hear the blokes response very well as he was quieter.

She then said

"Oh I mean to tell you, my grandads house ... guess how much the bastards are charging for it.....£70 a week! but they won't have anyone on dole there. I'd have the cunt if they'd let me, keep it in the fucking family wouldn't it? look at that fat bitch over there! what the fuck is she eating? oh look, there's our Lesley! fat fucker going to chippy again!! bang on the window!! here, I'll bang on the cunt... "OI!!! FAT BASTARD!!"

why of why do people feel the need to act like this? there were little kids on the bus. I'm no prude, not easy to offend and yes I do swear but I felt like shoving another sandwich in her gob to shut her up.

I know what you mean. Like you I'm not easily offended and I'm quite used to hearing people liberally sprinkling their sentences with fucking this/ fucking that but I used to work with a girl who swore viciously all the time. One occasion was when she brought back her lunch (from KFC) and said, to the office at large, that the fucking cunt had given her a fucking leg instead of a fucking breast. Fucking cunt. There was a lot of wincing going on....

The reason these people were behaving like this is that they are Neds

Sadly chavs are everywhere and we are not allowed to shoot them .

I told some teenagers (14/15 ish year olds) off the other day on the bus who were cussing in front of my 8 year old, I expected a mouthful of abuse but instead I got a sorry Mrs, and some very quite lads for the rest of the journey.
I must look really scary

Ned: Scottish term for the kind of people you get wearing sports fashion, swearing loudly on buses/in shopping precincts/on park benches with a Staffie in tow.

And swigging from tins of Tennents Special, if it's a special occasion.

I swear like a trooper, but there is a time and a place (normally in the car when driving )

I dont know why people feel the need to speak like this, I know teenagers do it because they think it makes them sound cool and old but why an adult would do it in public when others can hear is beyond me

I swear, alot, but there is a time and a place. I wouldn't dream of doing what you described, I swear when I know there are people around who I defo know would not be offended. I do find swearing very theraputic and it is my way of dealing with stress.
Some folk are just rough and nasty and have no social skills at all.

Thats horrid behaviour.

I swear (sometimes alot), but I think there is a difference between swearing out of anger and just swearing for the sake of it.

Rules out Ned as a name then.
YANBU - I hate it when they know lots of people can hear including older people and children.

We have a special licence to shoot chavs in our area.

But then I live in Weybridge.

V posh and chavs would ruin the effect.

Swearing is my no.1 pet hate!

So if a group of kids are swearing in front of your children, would you tell them off? Or ask them not to?

I was in this situation before and my children are 3 and 1 and my daughter (the eldest) is now starting to copy everything anyone says - but i was too scared/intimidated to say anything

NED - Non Educated Delinquent, term does not do justice to annoying specimen.
And i always thought Neds were summier than Chavs!

I hate swearing in public (although I have been known to curse like a navvy in private!)
I recently told teenagers off for swearing in front of my dc.
I said "do you kiss your Mum with that filthy mouth?!". They were very sheepish.
When an adult does it though I just give them a very disapproving stare and usually they will apologise.

Neds scummier than chavs... possibly so but we do not have chavs north of the border. Maybe it's the lack of vitamin D.

stayoutofthelight's sweary bus people could fit comfortably in either category I reckon.

Sunflower lol yes that name never made our list!

"There is no need to talk like a docker."
You sound like a complete snob with this sweeping generalization. First off, how many dockers do you know and secondly, what makes you think they all talk like this? I know several dockers; they are fine people.
What an ignorant comment to make. I find it hard to believe nobody has picked you up on this already.
So bringing them into it is unreasonable. YANBU however in your disgust at people talking like this. There is no need for it; it's foul, vile talk.
