To xpect a meter reader to read the meter correctly

Especially as it is a DIGITAL meter - so no complicated dials to read????

My DD has gone up nearly £40 a month, when I rang up to enquire it was because my leccy usage was excessive over the summer. Huh???

So I check the last meter reading on my account, which was taken end of November, then go out to read my meter. Lo and behold the meter reading on my meter is LESS than the reading done by the meter reader 3 weeks ago

Then at first they refused to change my DD back but I've got them to agree to split the difference and review after my next bill in Feb. So it has now gone up £17 which is much more reasonable. I was expecting it to go up anyway due to price changes and our shite British 'Summer' but I thought £40 was a bit much!!!

We have dials on our meter. A woman came round to read it and said to me that you have to take it up to the next number. I thought that was wrong as that meant that the first dial read one instead of zero. No she was definitely right. A few days later the electric company rang to ask if we could check the meter as the reading didn't seem right. As I thought you take it down to the previous one. She'd increased our usage by about 1000

That happened my Dad. Meter reader put a 1 at the beginning of the number instead of a 0. He got a bill for thousands and a phone call from the company as they figured it had to be wrong based on 44 years of readings in the same house! Still took a while to sort it though.
