I hope they were smelly hobnailed boots

They were really accurate weren't they? . It must happen often as he ducked both of them with finesse

Well having just seen the footage on channel 4 news I would like to

1)Commiserate with journalist for failure of shoes to land on target.

2)Heartily agree with sentiments he expressed.

Yeah.
Insulting but kind of funny; potentially painful without being life-threatening. The last thing we want in the closing days of the presiduncy is GB being martyred, but a series of shoeings would be good.

Not unreasonable at all! I wonder whether I ought to box up all the stinky or ill-fitting old shoes and send them to the White House as a parting gift.

YANBU.
I am only sorry the aim was so crap.

YANBU! I just hope the guy who did it is going to be ok.

I would have been happier if it were something that would have done permanent damage.

He was fast to duck though, wasn't he?Makes you wonder whether Barbara is a bit of a plate thrower during a row.Either that or the Secret Service minders have taught him to duck down super quick as training "Down here,Mr President" x 1000000000.

YANBU, I only wish that he had hit him. Who would have thought that ol' Bushie had such quick reflexes.

And Bush's 'joke' afterwards! Gosh, I think I'll die laughing at that one, he's a card isn't he?

what an offensive thread.
so you think it is ok for me to be thrown arround!!!!!

If it had been me throwing the shoes I'd have got him if he ducked! DH always says just stand still, if you duck when I throw something only then will it hit him .

(Have only ever thrown cushions, by the way!)

I have not heard about this. Are we talking flipflops or New Rocks?

I just wish it had been something rather messier. When did we stop lobbing tomatoes at politicians? That's where we've been going wrong. Good old-fashioned salsa, it's the only language they understand!

Just watched on youtube

Lol at the journalist shouting "this is a farewell kiss, you dawg" (You have to say dog with an American accent)

I wonder about the secret service. Their reaction was poor. I did not see anyone throwing their body between the president and the flying Hush Puppies.

Sticksanta, I believe they were sandals. And it is supposed to be the highest insult you can offer in Iraqi culture. I may be wrong, but that's what I read in the newspaper

Yes it is a huge insult to throw shoes. Isn't that why that English couple accused of having sex on a Dubai beach got in to even more trouble? It was reported that she threw her sandles at the police man who arrested them (she denies it).

If it were the other way 'round, their more fundamental factions would be marching on the streets, burning effigies and so on. But apparently, the guy who did this is being hailed as a hero.

George Bush just ducked and shrugged and then smiled like he can take the insult on the chin.. Good for him I say. And that's the first time I've said that.

Made me hate him even more, after his comment. The man is a prick.
