to be angry that he's smoking eels.

We have to go away on Wednesday for a week so the plumber can pull up our floorboards and completely replace our heating system. There's a great deal to do before this can happen as the house is in chaos.

He's in the garden smoking eels.

Yesterday we had some friends round from London who we hadn't seen for ages. I cleaned the house and made a cake.

Just when the house was begining to smell fresher he started a fire in the garden in order to smoke eels. I told him I wasn't having it. (I'm vegetarian and so were two of the three visitors.) So he stopped.

I thought we'd be together today sorting the house out. There's so much to do, but he's gone off in the garden to smoke fucking eels again.

Thing is, I don't think he should bring them home in the first place. He's an angler. He caught them. They've been in my fridge and freezer.

I'm very tolerant of meat in the fridge which he cooks for the kids ... but for me this is too much.

He says it's no different from buying a chicken and putting it in the fridge but I just feel this is taking it too far. It's like he's rubbing my nose in it.

Is it just me that's confused?

Notalone Mon 25-Aug-08 11:52:35

Lol sorry Spidermama - its the way you phrased it. I read that it was your plumber who was smoking eels in the garden!

YAB slightly U seeing as he is doing it in the garden. At least he is not cooking them in the house. How long does it take? I would smile sweetly and then use your tolerance as a bargaining tool for him to help you in the house afterwards

perhaps he could have a little gazebo outside for smoking eels?

TrinityRhino Mon 25-Aug-08 11:54:50

its not rubbing your nose in it
you became a vegetarioan so that OU wouldn't be killing

he hasn't decided to do that

he is just doing what he thinks os fine

He's in now ranting at me for being on MN when there's so much to do. I told him I'm on MN because you're smoking eels mate.

I wonder how the neighbours will feel about their washing smelling of smoked eels. <grasping at straws as there's no washing out due to inclement conditions.>

I had been wondering what else I was not hip to in the world of things that people smoke grin

we are far too fascinated with the eel smoking to properly respond properly

please post pictures of Mr Spider's eel process

honestly - you have to go out with a list, sorry. Dh doesn't function without a list. He would be outside moving things around in the shed at this point, thinking he was achieving something useful, without realising the cruel irony of the situation

what needs doing? stick it on a list

put 1) smoke eels at the top of it, so he knows this must end soon

it is a tad hypocritical to be so pissed off that he isn't 'doing stuff' when you are on mumsnet!smile

MrsJohnCusack Mon 25-Aug-08 12:01:26

Cappuccino Mon 25-Aug-08 12:01:51

"he's gone off in the garden to smoke fucking eels again"

I have to say Mr Spider you do liven up the place

other people's dh's are always on their computer games or visiting porn sites

TheDuchessOfNorksBride Mon 25-Aug-08 12:03:22

What Humphrey says.

And I am now stuck with the Eels song from the Boosh in my head for the rest of the week - which is very unreasonable.

lol at Cappy

EelCod Mon 25-Aug-08 12:05:14

why cant he
you miserable old bint

Communion Mon 25-Aug-08 12:06:07

Whenever we have to get organised to leave the house my Dh finds some obscure job that needs doing and insists 'I'll just do this first'. It always ends up in a row.

He has no idea of time required for tasks or order of priorities.

So I too would be pissed off.

I'd also object to smoking eels generally though, as eels are digusting creatures that I couldn't bear to look at or even imagine being in my houes and the thought of the smell from smoking them makes me retch.

However, I do accept that it is not instrinsically bad, and in fact admrable to catch and cook your own food.

But eels, howver unreasonable, I'd have to say NO!!!!!

misdee Mon 25-Aug-08 12:06:18

hmmm never tried smoked eels. or eels in any way.

do they smell really really bad?

at least he is doing it inside, nd not cooking them inside?

EelCod Mon 25-Aug-08 12:07:36

pmsl laughing, I thought the plumber was smoking eels too and was going to say that HIBFU but have to say it's only marginally better that it's dh and if you're vegetarian YANBU - can imagine the smell must be vomit inducing

Uriel Mon 25-Aug-08 12:08:33

Smoked eels are actually not as horrible as they sound.

YABU to expect him not to catch/smoke/eat eels, just cause you are a vegetarian.

YANBU to expect him to do overtime gettign the house ready for the (non-eel-smoking) plumber

WideWebWitch Mon 25-Aug-08 12:17:18

lol at this thread. I think yabu but capp is right we're all too fascinated with eel smoking to give any advice at all
