my kids get spends from my mum and dad and my great auntie who lives nearby.I've ordered a WII game for hubbie which is going to cost over £30 and of course I don't expect kids to pay that sort of money out of their own piggy banks. But is it ok to just ask for-say-a fiver? Or-because hubbie asked me to get him this particular game and I didn't consult the kids first-is it like stealing off them?

YABU to ask them for money for something they havent helped to choose and without asking them if they want to contribute.

Ask them if they'd like to put in £5 and go choose a present for Daddy with you.

Or ask them to make a card and some wrapping paper to go with the present you chose.

well...i did sort of suggest a "wii game for Daddy" and they thought it a good idea at the time.but, maybe they didn't think i would ask them to contribute.
maybe you're right though.maybe i should just pay for it myself.

I think you should ask them if they'd like to make a contribution. Explain to them that it's ok if they would rather buy something for their dad on their own, or make him something.

Sorry but if they didn't have any say in what to buy then it's unreasonable to expect them to pay up. It doesn't sound as though the present is even from them tbh. Your dh asked for the game and then you went ahead and ordered it.

I think they are old enough to give a bit of their pocket money towards it, I think it will do no harm. I do think that maybe though they should go out and choose something for him with that money on top of the Wii game.
By the time I was getting pocket money I was using some of it towards mothers/fathers day presents and I actually loved it and felt very grown up doing it I was choosing all by myself and payin all by myself.

Def old enough to contribute, but only if they choose it themselves and go out with you to buy it.

Just get them to make a card or help with his breakfast. It's all a load of bollocks anyway.

Definitely unreasonable. You have chosen to order a father's day present for someone who isn't your father and then want them to cough up!

If your children, who are old enough to know what's what, decide to make a card or even buy a present, that's great. If not, that's fine too. It's their father and their decision.
