AIBU?

To think that maybe people should be a little more thoughtful before posting hurtful comments about children with special needs/disabilities.

Grr.

Had a bad day and maybe a little oversensitive.

First and foremost,they are children.

And they are loved.

YA-so absolutely totally 100% -NBU

Unforgivable. And from people who are mothers themselves? Hmm, very nice, I don't think. Good on you for posting this.

I am sure you are not being unreasonable

but you are being unnecessarily cryptic

We need a link. If anyone has posted hurtful comments, I'll report to MNHQ on your behalf. Not acceptable.

Crush, the abortion thread on telly addicts somehow degenerated into a debate on whether disabled lives are worth preserving.

i was wondering whether this was directed at me for saying "I couldn't cope with a family of four staying at my house, we don't have the space. I personally think it is disingenuous (twice I've used that word in one night) to totally ignore the ADHD - rather like the elephant in the room - as behaviour of guests, including children, is relevant to my decision to extend hospitality" on my thread yesterday

Has the comment you quote there been reported to MNHQ Fio?
The other comment that upset many people recently has been apologised for very emphatically by the poster

YANBU .. the trouble is people just don't think. Without any experience of family members or themselves who aren't the "norm", nasty or hurtful comments will come out.
Working with disabled people is a whole lot different than living with them.

ok a programme of euthanasia murder for seriously disabled children with zero quality of life and no familial support is considered by some to be an ethical dilemma I can see that. And its black and white you either believe the consideration is accetable and a good thing or you believe it is evil murder

You are not being unreasonable. Spero's comment was both offensive and patronising.

I've just read the 2nd half of the abortion thread. People calmly deciding who should or shouldn't have the right to live. It's a long time since I've read such ignorant drivel and I'm surprised to find it still on MN.

YANBU.
what is profoundly depressing is the regularity with which such comments come up.

Report
barnical · 19/05/2008 11:05

I think that it is more depressing that people can be so ill educated in such matters. To me it is as offensive as deeming "whites" more superior than any other skin colour or race. Grrrr
People are people end of story, hell we are all different from each other.

I think such views are, sadly, quite commonly hels in RL.
