i had both sets of nummber plates stolen from my car during the night and am in the process of having them replaced at a cost of £33.

what if some looney is driving around london with my number plates speeding everywhere or even worse committing crimes! am really worried now.

Report the theft to the police. Get a crime number. Get their advice on what else you need to do (notify DVLC maybe? - sorry, am not driver).

You need to report it to the police + DVLA so it's on their computer. Sorry for your problems.

Ring the police (non-emergency no.) and report them stolen. Then relax.

Same happened to me many years ago and a few weeks later I got a visit from the police as 'my car' had been reported leaving the scene of a robbery. Luckily I could produce my 'thank you for reporting a crime; we will not be investigating it' letter so it went no further.

Same thing happened to me too. A couple of weeks later I received a letter saying that my car had been photographed going through a red light (took a while to realise that I hadn't actually been driving through Bradford at 11pm on a Tuesday night).

I had to prove which make and model the number plates related to and that was the end of the matter.
