Not sure where I should this TBH. DS2's rash (again) and the school, and the doctors line

As some of you will know, we are having a never ending illness round in our house. DS1 and I got slapped cheek, it caused me to get swelling in my joints. Anyway, last week DS2 got the rash on his face. Since then it has spread all over his body, getting considerably worse as the week has wore on. It is red and patchy, but not itchy. He is well otherwise, apart from a cough. He had a high temp and a snotty nose the first few days. I took him to the pharmacist the other day to see if she could recommend something for it. She said she was pretty sure it was measles, and to take him to the doctor doctor, which I did, and she said it was a virus, not measles and he could go back to school. Which he did. Yesterday. They had a class trip then and some mums were helping out. They noticed his rash and complained to the teacher about it, saying he shouldn't be in school, and saying it could be contagious. So the head called me today and asked me about it. I told her what doc had said (again, I put this in a note to the school yesterday)and she has "suggested" that I get a note from the doctors. however when I asked the surgery, they said the GPs charge £65 for things like this. So now I'm stuck. I'll have all the mothers (none of whom speak to me anyway) talking about me in the playground and what is bothering me more is that the children might start saying something to DS2.
Am I being unreasonable to
Expect the school to take my word for it when I said the GP said he was ok to go back to school?

If the school are so worried maybe you could give them permission to call teh GP to get confirmation. I would not be paying for a doctors note unless the school want to cover the cost. So sorry for you and your DS it is really unfair to be treated in this way - as if any mother would send their child to school if there was any possibility of it being contagious

Exactly Eve. I kept him off for three days at the start of the week, got him an emergency appointment on the pharmacists advice and was told he was ok to go back to school.

I dont think you are being unreasonable. Does he still have the rash? Hopefully it will be gone by monday?
If the school want a medical report from your GP they really should be asking for it (and paying for it!) themselves.

How awful for you and your DS. Its so unkind of those mothers to complain and talk about you both like that. Your GP has given you advice which you have followed, and then this! The next hing is the kids will have heard the parents talking and not want to play with your DS. Very sad. I would report back to the GP what the school has said and ask their advice, they may just send a note in, as you are caught between a rock and a hard place on this one. Hope it all works out ok.

He still ahs the rash, it is very noticeable on his arms and legs, but oddly not so on his chest, back and tummy. I put a picture of it on my profile the other day, when I was discussing with someone if it was measles, it's probably still there.
It looks awful, and TBH I am worried aobut it as he has had it for over a week now

Do you have a school nurse linked to your surgery, if so can she do some liaison for you? Alternative might be a quiet word from local hv to school about situation and reassurance that non-contagious.
