for you 2Shoes

I always feel sad for my DH too, on both Mothers Day and Fathers Day, as he has neither.

Hope your family make a special fuss of you though

Why do you hate it?
I think it is imp.

Report
Threadworm · 25/02/2008 11:52

I do dislike it now that it has been taken over by high street shops touting their wares.

I know, it's nonsense really isn't it? Blatant commercialism, but we all seem to get sucked into it...

I can understand where you are coming from 2shoes,if children can't be arsed all year, I would not want them to rally just because it's mothers day, sorry for your loss, no matter how long ago, it still hurts

Mothers day sucks...I hate having to be nice to a mother that has been abusive emotionally and physically in the past.

I also hate Valentines day....pap!

I think its a great opprtumnity for dh to take the dc out and buy me something from then and to be appreciative.
I feel the same about VD as you do about MD by the way, but was told off for that on MN!!
Sorry for your loss

can sympathise. its ok if you have a mum. Yet if you are in a different sitch its just a sad reminder.

My ddd is 5, and my ex dh is off the scene. Its not such a hard sitch, but it means I had to ask her if she wanted to have a few quid to get me something!!! As I know when the day comes she would be sad not to.

just pressure for some, heartache for those who have lost their mum.

I like it, but we don't get involved in the commercial stuff.

Start with the Church service at Salvation Army (one of the 3 times a year we go ) There is an opportunity to put a daffodil in a vase for any mums not present, for whatever reason. We'll invite my Mum & Dad too and all ladies there get given a little bunch of daffs by the children, then tea and cakes after. All very friendly and almost "quaint" TBH.

We will not be going anywhere near a restaurant. I will buy my Mum a card, but she has never had a Mother's Day present and would think it was a horrible waste of money. DS's will poss make something for Grandma. DH has been under strict instructions since before DC's were born never to let DC's spend any money on any trinket that has Mum/Mummy on it.

If I'm really lucky, I might get breakfast made for me and to go out for a nice family walk.

On my high street, the ann summers shop has a 'an ideal gift for mothers day' poster in their window... ummm, really? I think it's all gone a bit too commercial when a dildo or pair of nylon crotchless panties is an ideal gift for one's mother... or maybe I've just not moved with the times?

lol at Anne Summers - I wish I had the effrontery to give my mother something from there as a joke...

I hate it too. I hate having to conform to stuff like this and valentines day as I conform for most of the bloody year! Mortgages, schooling, blah, blah, blah...

Having to smile sweetly to the family knowing they have conformed, makes me so cross.

It's so blooming predictable, gosh I'm pissed just thinking about it.

I used to really look forward to Mothers Day as a child...Special hand-made crap card ..and Brekkie in bed for Mum.. me and my sisters loved making her feel special...but now it is way too commercialised as others have said.
