it shouldn't take five murders (Steve Wright) to be sentenced to life i.e. never come out imprisonment.

No but life here does not mean life does it, the only time someone might get life is if they were detained at her majestys pleasure and even then it might not mean life.

The law is a joke!

I think the same. It also grates on me that Ian Huntley said 'why me?' and that he pretends he might actually have the guts to commit suicide every now and again so that he still gets his playstation and time with his boyfriend and such likes. Sounds like he's got it pretty kushty!!

Glad Steve Wright won't actually get out though.

imo i think that they should bring the death penelty back if its 100% that the person commited the horrific crime they dont deserve to live and that would then reduce the prison costs and free up money from the gov that could be used fro something more worthwhile than giving a pedo or murderer a tv and dvd player !!! just my opinion

Allegedly he has a boyfriend and a girlfriend. I read it in the paper the other week. The boyfriend is someone in prison and the girlfriend is someone out of prison who he writes to. The story said it could possibly be Maxine Carr. I duno about that though.

twospecialgirls, i ve always agreed with whatyou just sid, but heard an inteview with a barrister recently, aparently because therewould be so many rights to apeal ect before the death sentance would be carried out it would actually cost the tax payer more than keeping the scumbags in prison.

I'm proud of the fact we don't have the death penalty in this country.

your proud to be paying for a pedo or murderer to have a comfy life while a familys life is in ruins !!!! thats very odd imo

Nobody has the right to decide who lives and who dies.

well i think that if they take a life or commite a horrific crime then that desision should be made !! they live better lives than most law abiding people ! they shouldnt have that right

Report
VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/02/2008 22:39

who should decide that?
and on what arbitrary basis?
who decides whether it is society or the individual at fault?

twospecialgirls · 22/02/2008 22:42

so are you saying as a society we coudl be judged responsible for steve wright murdering those girls !!!!!!!!!!

Report
twospecialgirls · 22/02/2008 22:43

i dont care if society faied him at some point in his life it fails a lot of people me included but we dont go out killing innocent people !

I never ever will understand the logic of people that say we should as a nation kill people who have killed other people, because killing people is such a dreadful thing to do......errrr

We have the right to take away their liberty, not their life. That is showing more clearly that you are a society that thinks killing people is wrong. I would far rather be paying for people to be kept in prison than to be killed.

twospecialgirls · 22/02/2008 22:47

but they are not paying are they half of them are living the life of riley in there what kind of punishment is that

Report
WinkyWinkola · 22/02/2008 22:49

Life of Riley? Not sure about that.

But it is extreme arrogance to suppose that we can kill people in the name of justice.

I wasnt saying anything. I was asking questions. Pretty valid ones.

If you think that prison life is something like one long party you are much mistaken, and there is more to a custodial sentence than just the grounding/detention of naughty men and women.

Personally, I dont agree with capital punishment at all.

winkywinkola, i know this sound really calous, but if somebody is going to spend the rest of their life in prison, has no hope of rehabilitation ar release what is the point in them living?

Report
twospecialgirls · 22/02/2008 22:54

arrogance i dont think so i just think that the type of people we are on about dont deserve to live a life be that behined bars or in a hospital or living next to a school after being supposedly rehabilitated ! i think that tax money could be better spent
and yes they have decent lives in prison 3 meals a day tv ,education ,gyms they shouldnt have any of it

the punishment is having their liberty taken away. Thankfully we have moved away from the days when prisoners had to be treated cruelly to be considered punished.

Have you been to a prison twospecialgirls?

I have, a 'general' lifer's prison and a high security high profile one. FWIW perhaps it would re-assure you to know that I never saw anything that could be considered the life of riley. What specifically are you referring to that makes you think that?

Report
HonoriaGlossop · 22/02/2008 22:58

well nancy the point in them living is that as a society we make the point that murder is wrong by NOT taking away their life. Because to do so would be killing them. Which as I think we are all agreed is wrong.

So the point of them living is to make us not murderers too.
