AIBU?

To expect DH to start standing up to pee now that we have a DS?

He has done this for as long as we have been together (10 years). He says it's more comfortable . I can't say it's something I have ever found particularly attractive, but he's such a dude in every other respect I have somehow managed to live with it.

Now we have a DS (DC1 is DD) I suddenly seem to mind more. Surely it's time for him to do the right thing, and to stand up to the toilet like a man? I don't want DS growing up thinking that's the norm. I mean, what'll he think the first time he encounters a urinal?????

so long as he pee's in the toilet and not the floor does it really matter how he does it?

When is weeing EVER attractive?
You are joking right?

Belive me, and I have two boys, a nearly 6 year old and a 2 1/2 year old, the longer they sit to wee the better. ... Target practice takes a while...

Question is, can he live with your toilet habits?

gosh when he is about 6 you will be ruddy thankful if he has the habit of weeing sitting down

I am assuming you are the person in charge of cleaning your bathroom floors btw

I'm not sure! That's why I posted! I never met another man who sits to pee other than DH.....I want to know if he's a one off, or if it's more common than I imagine.

Can't really see why you're bothered - "somehow managed to live with it"? Less chance to make a mess, seat always down - win win.

My dh sits to wee, of course he'll use a urinal if out and about, but in a house he sits. His Dad taught him that it is more hygenice as less pee gets on the floor.

My ds is 5, he sits to wee at home and stands at school - I know this cause I asked him. It's not an issue to him.

DS1 has been toilet trained nearly a year now and no way do I want him standing and spraying all over the bathroom!
If we are out and DS needs a loo I take him to the ladies or DP takes him to the gents and into a stall so the child sits.
How on EARTH could a small boy use a urinal?? Are there stepladders in these places? Or little urinals nearer the floor?
I can't say I have ever studied DPs weeing habits enough to even bother whether its 'attractive' or not, its a bloke having a wee!

QS - ha ha - not ever found weeing attractive, but confess to finding it less than masculine that he sits like a Laydee . And no, F&Z - I am not in generally charge of cleaning our bathroom floor (other than when DD decides to potty protest - so actually, yes I suppose I am - yuck).

My toilet habits are impecable. I leave door open if I'm peeing, but always close for a number 2! {grin]

ALL boys should pee sitting down. And all men. And they should all do 'dab dabs' with the loo roll too.

For some weird reason I can't remember I do know that my BIL wees sitting down.

He is a neat/clean freak and so is SIL so that's probably why.

Be thankful my ds pisses all over the seat.

trus tme one week of them pissing standing up, you'll be beggin them all to sit
That;s after you've replaced the lino/carpet/flooring and worn your fingers out mopping up piddle stains
I make everyone sit in this house and then at least the stains are confined to the underside of the seat.

This is extremely revelatory - I grew up in an all female household, so have no real understanding of how messy a bathroom floor can get if the men have poor aim. Am thinking now that perhaps all this time what I have been viewing as mildly embarrassing toilet etiquette, is actually excellent bathroom manners. My glass suddenly half full.....perhaps not best analogy for this topic

Where did that 'I can't believe my DH poos sitting down' thread go?

Boys pick up the habit of peeing standing up from their friends, I'd bet.

Why would anyone want wee cascading into their loo from a great height, splashing all over the place? Much more civilised to wee sitting down.

Yep
IF ds1 wishes ro piddle standing up then he can do that in the safety of his school and any other public facility he finds himself in.
In our house our friends/relatives houses
he pees sitting.

Funnily enough I have just asked my dh to sit down when he does a wee if ds is in the room with him as I think it'll make more sense to ds when we start to toilet train. I agree it does look a bit odd, though!

My dh pees sitting down too,out of consideration for wee on floor! only does it at home I think, and when not in a hurry,I am grateful as I hate that man wee smell you get in houses with loads of blokes, unless you clean the floor every day.Uggh.

I come from a househould were even the pets were female and where my father used to complain about living in a college for girls to the point that his masculinity was so overwhelmed by female company that he had started to sit down (liar, now that I clean the toilet, I know that that wasn't true!)

Now that I have the experience of having two "men" in the house I would rather have the remaining one sitting down rather than having to clean midnight bad aims.

NotQuiteCockney · 02/02/2008 22:54

That's close, hunker, but there was a thread by someone complaining that their DH (DP?) sat down to poo. Rather than pooing into a carrier bag and throwing it out the window, like a real man.
