my parents bought me a present based on an idle comment from me months ago about wishing I could play my LPs.

It is ghastly. It is a cheap-looking and tacky Olde-worlde music centre supposed to look like a gramaphone player. The sound quality is awful. I got better sound from my old tranny radio when I was a teenager.

It looks awful, it is quite big and bulky and because my mum and dad visit often, i will have to have it out on display somewhere.

I will also have to go to a lot of trouble rearranging stuff in my living room to accomodate this monstrosity...

I cannot tell them I am disappointed with it, because I love them and I am very grateful for the thought. It's just hideous. How soon before a dreadful accident could befall it do you think?

Oh dear. Lovely thought on their part though.

I think you need to leave it at least a couple of months before a dc, dog or visitor has a dreadful accident with it.

I really tried to like it, I did! But even the sound is shit!!!

It cost them quite a lot of money (they are pensioners)

Do you have a spare bedroom where you could put it without having to stare at it every day?

Spare bedroom, I wish!
The awful thing is, there are lots of mini systems out there for half the price with turntables on.....which I would have loved!

oak-veneered MDF. Lovely!

Put it in your bedroom, and say you love lying n bed listening to music like when you were a teenager?

well can u tell them that the sound is not very good and show them an alternative and send it back

SelfishMrsClaus · 28/12/2007 14:37

Put it in the bedroom so you can "listen to it in peace & quiet"

My mum bought me 2 dishclothes & a mirror apparently she is fed up of not being able to look at herself when she visits.......I don't own any mirrors She thinks this is some sort of unspoken personal phobia about looking at my refelection... nothing to do with the fact that I just haven't go round to buying one yet!!!!

Zips, can't send it back once it has been used, apparently according to their website.

Can you tell them it seems to be faulty & suggest that you take it back & swap it? Then when you get back with a different one, say they had none similar??

Oh dear oh dear...

I was given a terrible hat one year by mil. At least you don't have to wear it I suppose

Aaanyway... when in doubt blame any young children you have in the house.

'Oh dear chocolate junior fiddled with it and darn it! It broke! I was so, so disappointed I bought this to replace it.' Don't let aforementioned child in on the deception...they always always drop you in it.

I think you will have to endure it for a little while - then sell it on ebay - someone will LOVE it I guarentee !! Then tell your parents that it went wrong and you spoke to the manufacturers who couldn't replace it as it was a known fault, they;'ve had loads sent back etc.... ! Of course you will be really gutted about this - but with the proceeds from the ebay sale you can buy a mini system - and tell your parents that's what your replacement was !

Everyone happy !!!

Bless them fro trying - mine gave up years ago and now give me a cheque !

I'm so glad (and a little surprised!) none of you have roasted me about being grateful for what you are given... I do appreciate the thought!

Yes it will work - but .... you do have to replace it immediately otherwise they'll think they should get you another of duboius taste !!!

It doesn't look as bad as I was expecting and I think is a bit ungrateful to want to get rid of something that cost them money they probably can't afford. They tried.

Report
worzsel · 28/12/2007 16:06

break it and say it doesn work and you want a refund. tell your parents that as it's obviously not very well made you will get something else and then give them half their money back if you feel bad about how much it costs.

you could even just say to the company that you don't want it as the sound quality is hideous and you want youre money back..
