AIBU?

To be so upset that DD2 didn't get one birthday card in the post today.

DD2 is 4 today, and the post has just been and there isn't one card for her in it. She has gone off to nursery this morning (before the post came) expecting to come home to some birthday cards, and now I have got to tell her there weren't any. I'm absolutely fucking heartbroken.

Is it because friends/family have forgotten () or maybe they want to give her cards themselves later?

oh no
That seems very odd, were you expecting specific ones? Could there have been a problem?

Did you get any real post or just "To the occupier", "To the car driver" type stuff?

Oh, the poor little thing. Do you have any friendly neighbours? Could you go and buy and couple of cheap cards and have those waiting for her when she gets home? If you have a pet, could he/she send her one?

I know that you are angry that nothing came through in the post, but try to focus her mind on what you do have for her at home.

Good luck

I was going to suggest the same. Get a few for her to open when she gets home.

Happy birthday to your dd btw. How cool having your birthday on firework day!

Maybe people will hand deliver them? Is there any chance that parcels may arrive later with the card in them? Maybe nursery will give her one?

Definitely get her one from Daddy, one from Mummy, one from each of her siblings and one from the cat/dog/horse if needs be.

Is she having a party? Tell her that people will bring them then.

I hope she has a lovely day despite the cards.

We live hundreds of miles away from family, and have no neighbours we know because we have only lived here just over a year. I'm sure she has not been forgotten and will probably get dribs and drabs of cards through the week - I hope so anyway. It's just so disappointing that there is nothing for her on her actual birthday. We got loads of post, but not a thing for her. At least we have a lovely cake for later (and Princess plates to eat it off!) and have bought tickets for her nursery's bonfire party tonight, so it's not a lost cause entirely. I'm just sad that I have to tell her the postman didn't bring her anything, because that's the first thing she will ask me when I collect her later.

Print her some of the internet and tell her the postman's bike/car broke down, make one from the postman saying he's sorry!

That's a good idea!

Def buy a couple, address them and put stamps on and write them as if they were from someone else. She probably won't notice the lack of postmark or know whose writing it is.

The post is becoming so unreliable and Monday always seems to be the worst day for it. Hope she has a fab day anyway

(She may even have forgotten the post when she gets home, if you don't mention it...)

There is no chance she will have forgotten! I am leaving early and going into town for a few cards which I will sign from people I know won't have sent any (young cousins, etc) and a few bits and pieces to make the house a bit more festive for when she gets home. It seems so important when you're little. I am convinced it is the fault of the Post Office, because I know of at least one that was posted on Friday in York (about 1 hr away from here). If my friend had walked here with it it would have arrived before today.

How did it go then, GOH? Did she like your cards?

GumpyOldHorsewoman you did the right thing - I had this exact same problem a few years back when the post was on strike so I just forged about 5 little cards and DD didn't know any different.

Hope you have a lovely evening.

I did buy her a few cards which I sent from her little cousins/friends abroad etc. She was delighted and none-the wiser.

I am really annoyed with the Post Office, though because I know of 2 cards specifically that were posted first class on Fri and Sat morning and neither have arrived yet (tues). Poor show.
