AIBU?

to think that GMTV's "plus size" model should be more than a size 12?

It makes me mad. Why the hell do we put up with this crap? Like the fashion industry is doing us a massive effing favour just by putting anyone out there who isn't extremely, extraordinarily, outrageously thin.

I bet the model agency says she's a size 16 just to look like they are doing the right thing. Size 16 my arse. Literally.

I agree with you.

I worked for Evans for a couple of years, and at the time they were just as bad for using models that were more of a size 14 than a 16. They seem to make more of an effort now though.

I was a size 16 when I worked there, but I did get approached by some of the larger ladies that said I wasn't fat enough to work in there, and that I couldn't understand what they wanted.

At the end of the day, as a larger lady, it helps to see plus-sized clothing on plus-sized models. You are more likely to buy something if it looks good on a woman with curves like yours rather than on a size 12.

you've just reminded me to write a stroppy letter to Eve magazine about the size minus zero lass they have with clothes hanging off her in the June issue, totally crap of them, an insult to the readers intelligence.

tomkat, I'm an ex-Evans employee as well, but was loud and proud at 22/24

Most of the models at the start of my tenure were a twelve, then they went to a sixteen. Not sure what they have now as the clothes are so damn shoddy I rarely venture in these days

I agree Agnesnitt, the quality is dreadful and they do that arm thing now where everything is scled including the length of the arms etc wtf is that all about.
So where do you get your clothes now then, if you dont mind me asking.

Haven't seen GMTV for years but the last time I saw it the plus size models were at least a size 14 if not a 16!

Some people who totally in proportion & tall are very deceiving, just a thought!

tomkat, that is shocking! Imagine if you'd worked in Miss Selfridge and people said you were too fat to work there! You can't win can you?

Starmummy, I just don't buy clothes

I'm going to have to rethink this theory soon, as it's a royal pain in the derrière to not have anything that fits, but I so loathe spending money on shoddy merchandise that I tend to make do with what I have already.

but the problem is...when it has been tried and tested women DONT buy clothes that are modelled by large ladies.

evans will usually use modles that are a size 16 but a more tonned size 16 rather than your short flabby post baby 16.

we all moan about not seeing enough larger women in tv but whenever a larger woman is put into the spotlight everyone in the media takes great pleasure in pointing out the fact she is fat.
some will say "ooh a large lady on telly how novel" but the majority scream "eurgh its a fatty on teh screen"

Sorry but I think Nesh probably is a 16. I think she is fab looking but I'm 10/12 and she's a hell of a lot bigger than I am. Remember she's very tall as well and if the weight is in her boobs and her hips rather than her tummy it may be decieving.

it's not Nesh but another one they've got. Bearing in mind that TV puts pounds on you, the one I'm thinking of is def not a 16.

I'm not asking for clothes to be modelled by large ladies. I'm asking for the media to stop distorting people's body images by telling them that ordinary sized women are plus sized (eg always describing Kelly Brook, Giselle Bundchen etc as curvy). They may be curvy compared to other models but compared to women, they are still thinner than anyone I know...

But even Fern's shrinking away nowadays.
