AIBU?

To have been a bit surprised at where the Amazon delivery people left my parcel?

Had an Amazon delivery today. The exact delivery date wasn't specified when I ordered, so I wasn't in to receive the package.

They pushed a note through my front door saying that they had left it in a safe place - my black wheelie bin! Shock

Initially I thought they meant behind the bin or something, but no, there it was, in the bin, on top of all my rubbish. I was glad that it had arrived and that I didn't need to rearrange delivery, but WIBU to find the bin rather an odd place to leave the package?!

Amazon leave mine behind our bin. Inside is weird I agree.

JenLindleyShitMom · 08/12/2016 23:19

They do this all the time!

LottieDoubtie · 08/12/2016 23:21

That's happened to me too- seems to be the new place to leave them..

OvO · 08/12/2016 23:22

Blue recycling bin is a favourite here. Not smelly and it keeps it dry.

Brokenbiscuit · 08/12/2016 23:25

Wow, quite common then. Won't all the thieves start speculatively checking the bins?

I had the same.

I suppose it's as much a result of the so called "flexible economy" as blithering numptiness - self employed drivers on piece rates and so on - but it's infuriating all the same.

GiftsOnTheFireLogsOnTheTree · 08/12/2016 23:28

They once put mine in the garden waste bin which was 3/4 full of garden waste topped with the insides of our pet bunny's cage! It was disgusting.

Brokenbiscuit · 08/12/2016 23:28

I wasn't really annoyed by it tbh. Just surprised!

It is quite a normal place to put parcels! (Not good, but normal!)

SerialReJoiner · 08/12/2016 23:29

Never in the black bin, but often in an upturned recycling bin.

Hopefully thieves don't cotton on!! Xmas Hmm

(or that the Amazon delivery doesn't come before the bin men get to it...)

ChocoChou · 08/12/2016 23:33

They always leave mine in the bin whether it's empty or not. Bek!!

Craftyoldhen · 08/12/2016 23:39

Ours once left a parcel on step by our front door in full view of the road.

Piehunter · 08/12/2016 23:43

My safe place is BEHIND the wheelie bin. On 3 occasions it has ended up IN the bin. Each time I've emailed Amazon and had a month added onto my prime subscription... Worth emailing them if you're bothered (I am, our bin is full of gross stuff that I don't want to touch, especially when it's full enough for them to put a parcel in and it's all been sitting in there for a week or two!)

MetalLaLa · 08/12/2016 23:43

I've had an extra three months added to my Prime subscription just in the past six weeks due to various cock ups made by Amazon Logistics leaving my parcels in the bin, in the rain, with a neighbour despite having safe place listed, also leaving it with a neighbour and writing down the name of someone who doesn't exist Hmm The customer service team always eeem very apologetic but the delivery quality has definitely gone downhill since they started cutting down on using external couriers or RM.

TheOriginalFactoryMum · 08/12/2016 23:47

I once had a Sony TV that cost £600 left in a 'safe place' when I was out at work - my greenhouse - which didn't even have a door!

CharleyDavidson · 08/12/2016 23:48

They leave our parcels in the back of our boat on the driveway. (Sounds far, far posher than it actually is!)

NeedsAsockamnesty · 08/12/2016 23:50

Ive had them left in my bin on bloody bin day

ponygirlcurtis · 08/12/2016 23:52

Last year I had an Amazon Fire tablet left in my black bin with all my stinking rubbish, and no note through the door so it very nearly went out to the bin lorry - was just luck I glanced inside while slinging in the next bag of rubbish. The package was absolutely humming. Customer services were entirely uninterested.

awayinamazda · 08/12/2016 23:53

I'd be worried that the bin might get emptied on the day they put a parcel in it :-o!
I had a delivery (not from Amazon) a few weeks back, which was left in the rain, outside the back door of a house 3 doors up, with no note, either at their house, or mine. Luckily my very kind neighbours noticed fairly early, and took the (large, damp) parcels inside.

The sender sent an email satisfaction survey thing, and I struggled with the question 'What one thing would you like to change about your delivery'!!

Airandmungbeans · 08/12/2016 23:59

I had a parcel, a new laptop, left in the bin once, at the end of the drive, waiting to be collected by the bin men. Luckily one of the bin men opened the lid before hooking it onto the lorry and rescued it. They took it back to their depot and left me a note letting me know so I could collect it. I was fuming with the delivery company though. If the bin man hadn't spotted it, it would have been gone.

Airandmungbeans · 09/12/2016 00:01

Meant to add that the bin was better than the child's car seat that one company threw over our six foot gate (unlocked, they hadn't even tried to open it) and completely destroyed!

angelofmylifetime · 09/12/2016 00:03

Yes, I too have had an Amazon parcel left in my wheely bin. Another occasion a small package (that would easily have fitted through the letter box) was put through an open kitchen window, landing on the cat's food bowl beneath it.

Maybe everyone needs to fill in that bit when you order something, about special instructions on where to leave the parcel with :

'NOT IN THE BIN!'
:-D

Afreshstartplease · 09/12/2016 00:07

I've had one left on the front door step too on a bloody main road

e1y1 · 09/12/2016 00:09

This has happened for a while (normal black bins too).

I used to work for a phone company and a fair proportion of customers used to ring complaining that their new mobile phone had been delivered and left in their bin, and as it was bin day it had been emptied Shock.

Not sure how true it ever were to be honest, as although delivery drivers do leave parcels in bins (especially around christmas), I don't think they would leave it in the bin if it were out for collection.

(Mind you customers used to ring saying they had bought a top up voucher and it wasn't working and when asked for the voucher number, the "voucher" had inevitably been binned and what would you know it was always on bin collection day :))
