AIBU?

AIBU not to be abused about buying my children tablet computers?

I have a faulty tablet that isn't charging. I phoned the retailer who sold me it and asked if the charging port was so delicate should I have bought that particular tablet for my child? The technical helpline guy stated he would not buy tablets for children at all, launched into the fact he had not bought tablets for his children till they were 10. I stayed that most children had tablets today and then he started lecturing me that he was 52 (I think that was to impress upon me that I was some silly juvenile) and I stayed that was irrelevant as I was 47 and my husband was older than him! By the end of the conversation I felt utterly abused about my parenting choices.

Ha, they're trying to make you feel bad so you don't ask for a replacement. It reminds me of the sales assistant in Top Shop, Oxford Circus, when I was 18 who told me that everyone's feet were different sizes, so I should buy a size 5 (which fitted) for one foot and a size 4.5 (which didn't fit) for my other foot, simply because that's all she had in stock.

Meh....you don't know this man. He is no one to you. Just heaping his opinions on to you. Be confident in your parenting choices. Fuck him

He sounds like a know-it-all dickhead but I think 'abused' is a very strong word to describe someone lecturing you. I can see why you're irritated but probably best to keep a sense of proportion about this. Someone being huffy on the phone is not 'abuse'.

If you think he was unduly rude, complain to the retailer.

The product is faulty, it should be repaired/replaced. Whether he thinks your kids should have them or not is none of his business.

Abused?

Ridiculous over reaction to someone on the end of the phone being a dick. Just askmto speak to someone else, tell them you are not interested in their opinions or quote the consumer rights act at them.

Don't play the fucking victim and use the word abused so damn stupidly. There are people out there who have been truly abused. Your use of the word to amke yourself out to be the poor person in this scenario must be really hard for them to read.

Pathetic.

Why did you even tell him it was your child's? Rule 1 is not advising any situation which may imply the fault is yours and not the companies!

Company's that should have been!

He's being a dick and your "most children have tablets today" retort was false and ridiculous, I'd expect that argument from a child not a 47 year old. You weren't being abused and your parenting wasn't being questioned but if you bought a tablet for the exclusive use by young children that was not specifically designed for young children, then your judgement about that was probably being questioned.

Why would any sensible person even engage with shit like this?
