I buy ready sliced cheese for lunchbox sarnies

daddyorscience · 04/12/2016 15:53

I always slice the cheese.. Grating means breaking the processor out!Smile I slice it thin, mind.

NoahVale · 04/12/2016 15:53

ready sliced, what scandal

Are you unable to afford it? If you're on a very small grocery budget, then I guess YANBU, but otherwise, let the man have a slice of cheese. Grated doesn't taste the same at all.

QueenofLouisiana · 04/12/2016 15:55

Peel it with a potato peeler. Thin slices which are easier than grated cheese to pop on a sandwich.

I hate lumps of cheese in a sandwich.

NoahVale · 04/12/2016 15:55

a minuscule grocery budget naoko

That's hard, Noah :( Can you compromise on thin slices or something? For me it's a texture thing, a thin slice of cheese vs the same weight of grated cheese would be preferable.

now is the matter of telling dh to use it

I'm a grater too OP even though it's more work. You also eat less cheese but it is just as satisfying. My dh slices half a block into his sand with. In his world he's thinks he's millionaire and budgeting is for the rest of us. So, no, YANBU in my book.

MissVictoria · 04/12/2016 16:01

It HAS to be sliced for a sandwich, grated falls out all over the place when you try to eat it, is really messy, and graters are harder to clean than a knife! But a bigger block of cheese!

Naoko · 04/12/2016 16:01

Oh, yeah. Cheese slicer. Definitely. I'm Dutch and forget not everyone has one of those :o They are so ubiquitous in Dutch kitchens, it'd be like suggesting a British person might not already have a kettle.

PeachBellini123 · 04/12/2016 16:02

I'm really sad: but when we get a block of cheese I grate it then put it in the freezer. Doesn't take long to defrost when you pull some out for a sarnie etc.

NoahVale · 04/12/2016 16:02

i cant find the slicer Sad

good idea to freeze grated cheese peach

somewheresomehow · 04/12/2016 16:16

solution - buy the cheese in a block, grate it all and keep it in a tub in the fridge

Liiinoo · 04/12/2016 16:18

At Tesco the grated and pre-sliced cheddar is normally cheaper per kg than buying it in the block.

JenLindleyShitMom · 04/12/2016 16:19

I love that people are advising OP buy a sliver when she is on a very tight budget! Grin

Agree with others though, you need slices for a sandwich, but he should make them really thin ones.

Slice it with a veg peeler....that is iNSPIRED

Serialweightwatcher · 04/12/2016 16:20

I always grate it ...... I bought myself a Tefal fresh express once and it's wonderful for cheese Grin ... I halve the grated amount of a big piece of cheese and keep one lot in a bowl in the fridge for the week and the other in a freezer bag so it can be used frozen on lasagne/pasta/cheese toasties - anything that can use melted cheese

JenLindleyShitMom · 04/12/2016 16:20

slicer
