AIBU?

Out of date food Tesco!

lostgirl77 · 28/11/2016 23:38

I nipped to Tesco on the way to my night shift, bought a chicken Caesar salad, just sat down to eat it and noticed it went out of date yesterday! Angry

Aibu to think this is really bad! Its not even just a day out of date, in half an hour it will be 2 days out of date!

Isn't it like a deadly sin for shops to have out of date food still on shelves? It's not even a best before it's a proper used by!

I have the receipt, what's the best way to complain?

It's only fair that I get at least the cost of a pizza rthat I'm going to have to buy now reimbursed! Grin

Is it a

Use by

Or best before date?

If it's use by, it's actually illegal to sell it.

PenguinsandPebbles · 28/11/2016 23:42

Well an offence maybe illegal is too harsh a word

ilovesooty · 28/11/2016 23:43

The OP said it was "use by".

I've had this in tesco a few times-mainly in the smaller "express" stores. Their stock rotation is shit.

Oh sorry-missed the point of the op! Email them via the website.

Speak to the customer service desk in store. They'll sort out a refund. Take the packaging too.

Definitely used by! I have the receipt somewhere I think I chucked it in the foot well when I got in my car! Blush

There's an Asda near me that was selling meat nearly 5 months out of date ... now that's grim Envy

People make mistakes. Take it back for a refund. Not a biggie.

The OP said it was "use by".

That's told me then.

OP, I would email, send the photo to them explain the story as you have here and hopefully you will get a good outcome. When I last complained to customer services at Tesco they were great. I had a refund and a voucher sent to me for £10. On my last two online shops I've had gifts :) last week I had a big bar of chocolate and this week gifts for the cat.

Tesco will refund you and probably give you a small goodwill gesture if you take the item, packaging and receipt in to their customer services. It is up to you if you are satisfied with that resolution. I would be as mistakes happen, but have seen in the past people be really outraged about things like this and threaten to report them.

No biggy?! I've got another 10 hours lift at work and only a measly reeses cup to keep me fed now thanks to them! It'll be a miracle if I make it through! Smile

Did Asda get done for their 5 month out of date stuff, in all seriousness that is a big deal!

Maybe I could report it to the fail and get my picture in the paper looking sad while pointing at the salad Grin

I bought some blueberry muffins from Tesco about 2 months back. Dated for the 25th, i bought it on the 27th! I'm mostly housebound so no job etc to keep me on track of what date it is. Became apparent when i bit in to one and it was completely stale. Checked the date on my laptop and realised they were 2 days out of date. My dad took them back with the receipt and they refunded and replaced for free (bear in mind was only a £1 pack of muffins).
They will definitely refund, might offer to replace it free with an in date item the same, but they definitely won't reimburse you for anything you buy elsewhere as a replacement lunch.

Def email them with a photo. I did when I had an issue and they couldn't have been more helpful. Was prepared for a fight too!! Grin

" Not a biggie. "
yes I can assure you that this is a 'biggie' that is why there is a date system, silly.

I've had this with a sandwich at tesco but I'd bitten into it before I realised Confused

I took it back and they refunded me after I refused a replacement which funnily I didn't really feel like eating at that point Envy

Tweet them with a Daily mail sad face you might get free stuff Grin

And agree it potentially is a biggie

I had a ready meal which I didn't realise was past it's use by date once, the aftermath was not a happy one.

Was only when I retrieved the packaging from the bin I realised and it was only a day.

Send your photo to Tesco - website allows for feedback (or tweet them if you want to get an instant reaction).
They will refund your money (and you might get an additional voucher for some money off).
You will have to find another way to feed yourself thought just now, sorry.

Penguins, I suspect I'll get my comeuppance at some point, but it is weird: I can eat almost anything (within reason: if it's furry or crawls off the plate under its now steam, I'll desist...) whereas DH who is much more careful that I am has an upset stomach v easily.
I otoh get colds... all the blood time Hmm

lostgirl77 · 29/11/2016 00:27

I was tempted to just eat it but I don't think I would enjoy it knowing the potential ramifications!

I'll email them tomorrow as I'm too much of a wuss to see an actual person, I'll probably end up apologising to them! Blush

Everyone's missing the bigger picture here though, which is quite honestly, devastating, I have NO TEA!! Sad
