AIBU?

He's going to end up sleeping on the sofa at this rate!

Stupid argument but it's really starting to piss me off!
I can't sleep when it's hot. Even in winter, I like to have the window cracked open slightly so there's a fresh breeze around the room. Our room gets quite stuffy because we have the heating on at the night for the kids, and we don't like coming down to a cold living room.
He insists on keeping the window closed because he doesn't like being cold. Aibu in thinking that's what the bloody duvet is for? He can easily warm up, but I can't as easily cool down in a warm stuffy room.

Why on earth do you need the heating on at night? Surely they've all got warm bedding?

And if you don't like going downstairs to a cold room, you put it to come on an hour before you get up.

The cost (and waste) must be horrific.

There's no way I'd be prepared to sleep in a room with the window open in winter Biscuit Grin

Could you sleep on top of the quilt in just your underwear or naked and have a light sheet over you?

Turn your bedroom radiator off?

Set your timer for the heating?

Separate bedrooms?

I wouldn't be happy with an open window this time of year or constant heating.

Both together would involve fantasys of suffocating my bedbuddy in the middle of the night for being a selfish twat Grin

Do you need the heating on at night?

My kids just wear warm pyjamas and have heavy Winter duvets.

I couldn't sleep with the window open in the Winter, especially since the sound of pissing rain would keep me awake.

If my DH insisted on that, he would be the one ending up on the sofa I'm afraid.

You need an electric blanket.

You can keep your side off, he can have his on and be toasty. Window can be open.

Open window and constant heating
You might aswell just burn £10 notes.

I don't like being hot, this is fixed by not having the heating on over night.
It's too hot for the kids.
Set it to come on in the morning.
Buy a fan for the breeze!

The heating isn't on in our bedroom. And the heating is on a timer, sorry should have made that clear 😂 ah I like the sound of rain! Looks like I am being unreasonable then.
I do try and sleep with as little clothes on as possible but I don't like being too exposed when I sleep

When it's freezing outside I'm pretty sure the norm is to keep the windows closed at night.

The person who wants to break from the norm is the one who should be sleeping elsewhere, be it in the spare room or on the sofa.

Although I don't see the need to have the heating on overnight.

Ah Worra, I love the sound (and smell) of pishing rain in winter when I'm all cosy in bed! Nowt better.

Heating off overnight. Window closed. If you're still not happy, get a tall fan (dead cheap this time of year Smile) and point that just at your side of the bed. Sorted.

Turn the heating off, and have it set to come on 30 mins before you get up.

Close the window, and give him an extra single quilt to go over his side.

I had this when i had hot flushes, but due to asthma cant have the window open as we live opposite a farmers field and nightime harvesting can have me in hospital. So i had a fan that blows cool air my side of the bed. I now juat have it on during the Summer. Marvellous it is. Before HRT i needed it on every night even when it had been snowing.

We have a nine week old in our room so our heating is set to keep it at the recommended 16 degree minimum. DH complained he was too hot last night. Tough tits I'm afraid.

How hot is it in your room? Could you turn the radiator off and just have the kids ones on (or get them thicker duvets and have the heating on a timer)? I think an open window in winter is a BU. Maybe a small fan if you need a breeze?

It gets stuffy because my oh office is in here, and nearly every evening he works up until bedtime with three monitors running (he's a film editer). It's also a new 'eco' house, we only have the main radiator in the hallway and the kids radiator on (set to low) but this house retains heat really well.

I think I must be a weirdo. Before dh I used to sleep with the window wide open, in the morning you could see my breath in the morning. Ever since I was a kid. Guess it's just a bad habit!

Oh and we keep the kids radiator on (heating on a timer) because they're terrible for keeping their covers on.

Try separate duvets? You have a summer one/empty cover and he can have a thick one. It works for us.

Shouldn't matter if they have warm pyjamas, they'll just learn to half wake up and pull the covers back on, just like I imagine we all did.

Mind you, I'm an old fart and grew up in a house with no central heating Grin

The kids will definitely learn to keep the bedcovers on if the heating is off.

I don't think it hurts to have window open a crack in winter as rooms do get stuffy with heating and sweaty bodies allows smelly farts to escape 😂

Could you open Windows after he's finished work so air room out before you go to bed

I had an ex like this, wanted the window open all night, whatever the weather, it was abysmal. Claimed to be "suffocating" if the window was closed. At least they didn't insist the heating should be on. Part of it was misconstrued Christian zeal that "suffering" (i.e. freezing cold rooms) was somehow "healthy" and brought you closer to God.
