And now I'm up shit creek. Don't ask why I did it because I panicked and my mouth started moving before I engaged my brain.

I'm trying to rent a house but no one will accept that I'm on housing benefit and will be going to work next year when dd goes to nursery. So I had a viewing the other day and when they asked about work I said I'm going to work in January. This is partly true.

When she asked if I have a job to go to I said yes I have no idea why and now I'm in a mess!

I know I'm AIBU but help!!

Seems like the sort of thing you'll either ha e to tell them or you'll get found out and evicted. If you end up evicted do you think that wikll help you get somewhere else or hinder getting somewhere else?

You need to phone up and say the job fell through.

If the LL insurance or mortgage found out about your lie it may mean possibly not paying out.

You don't have to tell them because rent will be paid directly to you only issue is that they might ask for wage slips

If you can keep up payments I reckon you'll be okay. if they question you say the job fell through or you changed your mind.
I assume you will be going to work at some point around then anyway.

Is it only renting? I wouldn't worry! If you get the flat then great if you can pay the rent then great. Don't lie if eventually you won't be able to pay.

I bent the truth about my work for a mortgage, but I knew I could keep up the repayments. Bank didn't know that tho.

Because full time nursery care is in the region of £1000 a month. And lots of people, even working full time, can't support a household and pay nursery fees on one salary.

You need to tell them the truth or very quickly find work. There's no reason you can't do either.

Lying could mean they are breaking the terms of their mortgage or their insurance may not pay out in the event of something awful happening.

They won't care as long as the rent is paid.

RE childcare - as the OP appears to be a single parent - CTC pay up to 75% of childcare bills for lone parents

it's tough (working single mum of 3) but do able - I'd start looking asap

but I don't think you need worry about the lie

I can afford the rent that's no problem whatsoever. And I'm 100% going to work next year, fingers crossed January if I can find somewhere in time. That's what I meant to say to the estate agent but it didn't happen. So now they're asking for references from an employer that doesn't exist

Most BTL mortgages do not accept HB, you could be putting the landlord up shit creek.

Have you moved in? Is it through an agent? Surely when they reference you and ask for proof of your job offer you will be found out.

if OP is on a low income, she will get get working tax credit if she works at least 16h and also the tax credits childcare element. Even on a minimum wage she will be better off than relying on benefits (I have done it - not speaking from hear say) .
