To wonder why dogs are suddenly welcone at loads of hotels?

I'm allergic and ended up with streaming eyes and my inhaler on my last trip. Could hardly breath. Surely they should keep specific rooms aside and not give them to non dog owning guests!
I like dogs but not in a hotel restaurant or hotel room.

No, YANBU. But if you're going away then just ask the hotel if they are dog friendly. Many are not..... But having said that, we took our mut away to a dog friendly hotel and it was great fun, even if it was a bit of a pain trying to feed him etc in a hotel room and DH tripped over his water bowl on the way to the loo in the night ..... which I thought was hysterical but he didn't for some reason!!!!

Many more hotels don't allow dogs than do. I know because we mostly take our dogs with us. Book one of those.

Any hotel that's dog friendly that we've ever been to do have particular rooms that dogs can stay in, sometimes they're allowed in the bar but not the restaurant but plenty don't allow dogs at all, it's much more common not to!

Didn't know dogs were allowed in hotels! Assume it's because they can't make enough money without it, but would also assume you'd have separate rooms (like smoking / non-smoking)

I'd be pissed off if I was in a hotel room that smelled of dog and/ or had dog hairs in. If it's been properly cleaned and I can't tell a dog's been there, fine. But I'd hate to encounter dogs in the hallways.

AirBnB has had a huge effect on the hotel industry, and a lot of those hosts are pet friendly. The hotels are having to change in order to compete.

I've stopped going to my usual restaurant as it's become the place to take dogs. It's a shame for me but good for dog owners I suppose.

We'd be a bit stuffed at dog trainer conferences and seminars if we couldn't take dogs.. and these are generally at hotels.

Hotels have to cater for more than just the dog free holiday maker, and most of them need to be venues for events, have people staying over on business or whilst travelling through the area.

Being blanket 'no dogs' would limit business very badly for some hotels (for example, all travelodges allow dogs).

the thing is to ask for a none doggy room if you are allergic and if its so bad you can't be in the same hotel then find a dog free one. its as much your responsibility to tell them about allergies as it is theirs to clean the room. However, without a deep clean you can't remove all trace if you are severely allergic so you need to inform them of your requirements

I'd also like to know why it's now apparently acceptable for dogs to be in shops. Again, it seems to be a very middle-class, entitlement thing.

Nice country hotels usually have some rooms where dogs are allowed (I think quite often ones which are nearer to needing refurbishment) - this isn't a new thing at all.

The most upmarket hotel I ever stayed in was the Rome Waldorf Astoria, it had a notice very much like the Toronto one.

Op hotels cant keep their dog friendly rooms vacant and only let themto guets with dogs it would ruin a business!

So even those who do have dog friendly rooms could have given you one.

You are the one with the allergy so you are the onw who should be checking the product suits your requirements.

I can see why an assistance dog would be welcomed at a hotel, but actually don't get why peolple take their dogs normally?

I do wonder how well the rooms were cleaned if your allergies were playing up, surely if they allow pets the rooms should be cleaned more thoroughly.

On a similar note, I've noticed people bringing pets into regular shops which baffles me, we're not talking guide dogs, but cutesy over groomed wearing coats varieties. I've had two pet dogs in my lifetime, and if they were ever taken near a shop they would either sit outside whilst I rushed in to grab something quick, or one of us would wait outside while the other shopped. Dogs are not humans I'm afraid as cute as they are.

I work in a hotel. We let dogs stay for free. We love them. Much nicer than a lot of the humans.
