My childrens school is awful at letting parents no anything they regulaly get times and dates wrong and correct them usually a couple of days in advance at most or even on the day. They rely on texts for last minuite communication and as im sure most of you know this isnt the best form of communication. Recently they sent a text at 2pm to say that the afternoon club was cancelled due to the teacher being off surely they knew that sooner in the day?

Maybe ibu but it drives me mad. The worse case was i was starting my new job on the monday after half term i had checked and double checked that breakfaat club was on only to get a facebook message at 11pm on the sunday to say sorry it wont be on as the woman who does the shopping has been on holiday so isnt ready. Its just crazy. Lukily my mother in law wasnt at work that morning so could watch them.

Myself and many parents have complained about this but it doesnt seem to change. Honestly i think they think parents sit at home all day waiting to pick the kids up.

Sorry this really is just a bit of a rant mainly set off by the constant texts about the school fayre thats changed dates 3 times and is now starting at 2pm on a school day afternoon and how they will let us know in a couple of weeks weather we need to pick the children up before then or not. Ffs the bloody fayre is in a couple of weeks. Its so infuriating.

Am i the only person having these problems or are other schools the same?

I speak as a teacher... you should say something.
We have actually been told not to rely on texts to communicate and that we shouldn't be reminding parents via text... think it was getting to the point where texts were being missed as there were so many!

Bikermum I could have written your post. My favourite is a text at about 8pm saying something like "Don't forget children need to come to school dressed as a Tudor tomorrow" The texts always seem to start Don't forget or Remember when actually the text is the first time you have heard about it.

Yes the organisation needs to be better. But regarding the after school club being cancelled at 2pm a) the teacher might well have come to school and become ill. b) been at school despite being ill (many teachers do this) and felt unable to do the after school club. c) was the club actually ran by a teacher at the school? If organised by an outside group school may not have known themselves till that time.

Do you have a PTA?

Because I think some sort of parent rep needs to sit down with someone from SMT and someone from the school, office and go through how the school communicates with parents, covering things like method and timeliness.

Changing the time of an event sometimes has to change, but 3 times is taking the mick, especially as they don't even seem to have sorted out when DC need picking up.

Good schools have effective partnerships with parents, and this I'm afraid sounds like one which really doesn't.

Join the PTA and make it your mission to sort this out with the school.
