AIBU?

to not want to bet £3k??

Dh has just flounced off because I've said no to putting down a £3k bet that Clinton will win. The chances are she will but I still feel nervy about putting that much money down.

Aibu? He thinks I'm making us miss out on a huge opportunity...

surely you can't win much? odds can't be that good?

ByeByeLilSebastian · 08/11/2016 13:17

4-1 apparently. I've no idea how it works tbh. What would you get back if you won?

Are you sure that's not an enhanced bet? They'll top up your account with free bets to that value, rather than cold hard cash...

According to him. No idea who it's through, sounds a bit dodge to me.

Not a chance in hell I'd bet that much.

Might be a new bookie offer by the sounds of it. Don't risk it the favourite looses very often.

If the bookmakers are giving odds of 4-1 on what is effectively a 2 horse race, that means they think she has no chance.

Could be 1/4, which means you would win £750 on top of your £3k, but I wouldn't risk it. After all the consensus was that the UK wouldn't vote for Brexit and we all know how that went.

Stick a fiver on it

Rules of gambling:

Only gamble with what you can afford to lose.

Only gamble for pleasure, not as a financial strategy.

If you want to make money out of gambling, become a bookie.

On the link posted by Oogle, they are offering 4/1, but on a maximum bet of £10 as a new customer offer. And I think you can't keep your winnings, only rebet them.

Wrinklytights · 08/11/2016 13:24

Absolutely not! The odds are 4-1 on (1-4), not 4-1. If you bet 3k you would get £3750 back if you won so you're risking £3k to win £750 - bonkers IMO

Also v surprised at those odds.

As with all bets, the answer depends on whether you could comfortably manage the loss of the stake. £3k being not much of a big deal to you is vairrrry different to it being no mortgage payment this month/ no holiday this year type of scenario.

I don't know how anyone can bet it's just sooo risky!
He's sulking now because I don't have a clue what I'm talking about. It's very true, I don't have a clue which is why I won't spend £3k on it!

The money is saved for redecorating so we could afford to lose it, but then we wouldn't be able to redecorate.

Crossed posts with the others, yes there are offers of 4/1, but max stake is £10.

Report
bumblefeline · 08/11/2016 13:29

As others said stakes are often limited on a price boost.

For example Coral's signup offer has Clinton to win at 25/1 but max bet is only £1.

The price ISNT 1/4 that was the price of Hillary to win
The price has been fluctuating between 4/1 and 7/2 ... Yesterday was 10/3 ..... I know I work in a bookies
I had trump at 7/4 ..... I don't know what to tell you .... Its your money . I had a fiver on it about 6 weeks ago .
ONLY BET WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE

If he's talking about betting that amount, you must have it spare as free spends unless he is a bit dim so let him bet the £3k out of his spending money, then he gets his way and it doesn't affect you.

If he wins, he gets an extra £750 and the pleasure of being right. If he loses, he has £3k less to spend on whatever it is he spends his money on.

There might be a maximum stake . I couldn't tell you what that is though im not in work
Zac goldsmith to win the Richmond by election was a maximum stake of £75.00 when it was first announced he was in the betting
Now he is 1/2 you can have 4k on it

Oh, I see it's your decorating money. Let me guess, he doesn't care at all whether or not the house gets decorated?

Dont bet what you cant afford to lose. Does 4-1 on just 2 people mean they think she will lose

Report
Pickled0nions · 08/11/2016 13:54

NOOO. Just because you can afford to lose it doesn't mean you should! That money could buy you a holiday ffs.

Tell your husband to stop pissing your money up the wall, he is just being far too hopeful that you will somehow win so much money that you'll never have to work again.
No, you won't make very much at all and could probably end up losing £3k, £3K!!!
