AIBU?

To never wear heels again?

I rarely wear heels anymore but I had a day in London yesterday for work and I was up and down the stairs to the tube and my feet were ruined when I get home.

These were just sensible Clarks small heels so nothing like what I used to wear all day every day years ago. Why do I feel like I need to wear them to look professional and to be taken seriously? I said to DH when I got home that men would have abandoned them years ago if they were expected by society to wear them.

I gave up heels years ago. I wear brogues when I want to look serious (as so many men wear them, no-one can really say they aren't professional).

I gave up heels a few years ago now and never looked back. There's a blog called EnBrogue which is written by a fashion journalist who only wears flats, she has loads of style ideas on there. Her blog gave me the confidence to ditch heels for good

Yanbu. I'm also a big fan of brogues and only wear heels on the odd occasion I fancy it and only if I am going somewhere I know I will have to do minimal walking. My granny claims her feet and legs have been ruined by wearing heels every day for most of her life. No thanks!

I look professional and I mainly wear flat shoes with suits for work. It has never been an issue. I do wear heels occasionally when I wear a dress for work, but it is very rare. I do get more looks then, but work-wise it makes absolutely no difference. Your pair of shoes is not the reason why are taken seriously or not at work. I wear trainers on my way to and back from work anyway.

I heard that heel were originally worn by men? So yes, they have given them up "years ago"- hundreds of years ago in fact!

I myself have worn high heels once in my life- as a teenager I tried on my mother's inside the house as a bit of a laugh.

I refuse to limit myself physically by the clothes I wear. I also have terrible bunions (since childhood) and I imagine heels would only make matters worse.

I hate heels, including the way they look. There are plenty of smart flat shoes.

For winter, I have a sturdy pair of Clarks boots with a stack heel. Great for walking & give you a bit of the lift you need to look smart in a dress (I am short). Otherwise, loafers with thickish soles for me.

YANBU, heels, even low ones, are bad for you as they force you to hold your body in an unnatural posture.

YANBU however I am just over 5 ft so need the extra height so won't be giving mine up just yet!

I think I need to find some stylish flat shoes, I'm sick of ballet pumps as I find them cold and not very practical either.

I haven't worn heels for years . They're just not practical for me in any way . I can't work in them , and now I can't walk in them . I'm the only one of my friends who never wears them , but it suits me .

I've ditched them too, including low, blocky or wedge ones. They make me feel all out of alignment, give me backache and sore feet and I'm happy at my natural height (5'5").

If you still enjoy wearing them for work because they make you feel smart could you change into flats/trainers when you are travelling?

I always wonder how people do it day in day out for work TBH, mine only come out of the wardrobe for funerals or weddings!

YANBU. I gave up heels a couple of years ago and it's fantastic. I wear converse or similar for casual, or boots, and brogues for work. Office is good for smart work flats. You don't need ballet flats.

YADNBU at all.

I have scrapped heels too. I wear smart flats and boots for work, and occasionally don trainers too (especially for journeys to work). I don't see why we women should suffer wearing heels, it is ridiculous. I don't care if men or other women expect me to wear heels, I am not going to wear something that hurts me.
