AIBU?

To call in sick for a cough?

I called in sick yesterday as I have a chest infection. It started last week with coughing which I carried on working with but over the weekend just got much worse with extreme lethargy, nausea, headache etc.
So I called in sick yesterday. Boss very supportive and told me to get well before coming back. I was meant to go back today but actually felt worse, the cough kept me up all night and this morning my penis was on fire, could barely walk and felt weak so I called in sick again.

Cough has actually got WORSE throughout the day but I don't know what to do. I went to dr yesterday who said it was a viral infection so could give me nothing for it but it's actually got worse not better.

I don't want to be off work 3 days in a row, I've only been in this job 3 months but the cough is actually quite disabling. It's so deep and angry and makes me feel like I'm going to throw up.

Should I actually call in sick for a cough?? I'm a nurse btw so also conscious about coughing and spluttering on my old people

if your penis was on fire then you've got more than a cough to worry about

Stay home until you are no longer infectious and able to do your job. That's what sick days are for.

Can you not work from home? You've been able to do multiple posts today about your dragon-Tshirt wearing boyfriend, finishing with him and were looking to meet him at 4pm today - so maybe penis isn't that on fire with the debilitating cough Grin

Thread "To have torn DP a new one after his comment towards me?"

Not troll hunting, just genuinely curious...

A chest infection isn't just "a cough".

You're ill. Call in sick and go back when you feel better.

If you're getting worse I'd go back to the doctor. Can you see another GP for a second opinion? And get a sick note for your employer.

God that didn't even work.

No I can't work from home unless my patients fancy lining up at my door for their insulin jabs.

I only live around the corner from dragon face so it's no hardship to pop around at 4pm for half hour

A head on fire isn't great, either.

Penis on fire has made me laugh so much.

I agree with London, if it's possible to work from home, I'd offer that. Otherwise, chest infections are evil. Get well soon.

If it is a viral infection surely you shouldn't be around patients until you're not coughing and spreading germs.

I don't understand why people think they should not be off work when they are genuinely ill.
If you have patients to deal with you would be positively neglectful to spread whatever you have with them!
Just accept you are ill and go back when you are well.

Your penis is on fire Grin

YANBU.a chest infection is worse than a cough, and if you work with diabetics you really don't want to risk passing anything on to them as diabetes can weaken the immune system.

I hope you feel better soonFlowers

If you've got the same thing as me then I'd be off work if I wasn't on mat leave.
Horrible chest infection in it's third week, on day 5 on antibiotics and only slightly improved. I feel like crap and keep waking the poor baby with my hacking cough.

My penis is ok though.

You can't go in with a chest infection or a burnt penis.

Are you sure you don't need antibiotics?

Well thankfully my penis seems to be on the mend (glass of water nearby however, in case another dunking is needed).

The cough is getting horrendous. It's pretty much constant now, even the dog has pissed off to the kitchen because the noise is doing his head in.

I just worry about how this sickness will look on my record. Been there four months and have been once once already with a pulled back muscle. Now this. Boss wants to know by this afternoon if I'm going in tomorrow or not.

Dr won't give me antibiotics as it's viral she says :-(
